British tourists conquer Fuerteventura: Germans fall behind!

There are signs of a remarkable change in the tourist visitor structure on the popular Canary Island of Fuerteventura. In 2025, British tourists will overtake German holidaymakers for the first time, setting a new trend. According to information from Buzzfeed 243,181 Brits visited the island this year, an increase of 13.2% compared to last year. German holidaymakers, on the other hand, recorded a slight decline with 236,398 arrivals and slipped into second place.

The region benefits from numerous cheap air connections, which particularly attract British travelers. In addition to the mild climate throughout the year, the diverse range of leisure activities on offer contributes to its popularity. Fuerteventura is increasingly seen as an attractive alternative to classic British holiday destinations, which elsewhere may be characterized by overcrowding or high prices.

Fascination Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura offers a remarkable selection of activities that particularly appeal to families, water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. The island impresses with its endless sandy beaches and impressive natural landscapes, which offer optimal conditions for wind and kite surfers. Families will also find child-friendly resorts and sheltered bays that create ideal conditions for relaxing holidays. For hikers there are varied routes through the volcanic landscape as well as several nature reserves.

Compared to other Canary Islands such as Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Fuerteventura shows a remarkable growth of almost 8%. These neighboring islands recorded moderate growth of between 1.9 and 2.8%. Despite the positive development, there are concerns about the increasing flow of tourists, as this poses a challenge for infrastructure and environmental protection. Sustainability and environmental protection are therefore becoming increasingly important on Fuerteventura in order to preserve the island's special charm for future generations.

Another problem is the decline in German holidaymakers, who are increasingly choosing to travel to Turkey, where they can find better all-inclusive offers. This development means that tourist flows are increasingly reorienting themselves towards alternatives.

Overall, thanks to its attractive offerings and attractive location in the Atlantic, Fuerteventura is showing growing interest, particularly among British visitors, while German holidaymakers appear to be considering other destinations. Future challenges face balancing tourism and preserving the island's unique nature.
