New flight rules in Turkey: Strict seatbelt requirements from now on!

Turkey's General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has introduced new safety rules for air travelers that are effective immediately. These regulations particularly concern the early unfastening and opening of the luggage compartments after landing. Passengers who get out of their seat or open the luggage compartment before the seatbelt sign goes out are classified as “passengers traveling in violation of the regulations”. The aim of these measures is to prevent accidents during disembarkation that could be caused by falling luggage or unexpected movements of the aircraft.

The new requirements have already been implemented by Turkish Airlines. The penalties for violations of these regulations are currently unknown. However, cabin crew are expected to issue warnings for violations and make it clear through announcements that standing up is only permitted after reaching the final parking position. Passengers are encouraged to wait for their turn rather than simply standing up and rushing off.

Strengthen security measures

The initiative to tighten these rules comes at a time when aviation safety measures are increasingly coming into focus around the world. The responsibility for compliance with the rules lies not only with the passengers, but also with the cabin crew, who have been trained to strictly enforce the new regulations.

Rigorous compliance with these regulations could potentially have a long-term impact on accident statistics in civil aviation. Passengers are asked to carefully follow cabin crew instructions to ensure their own safety and that of other travelers.
