Magical Cairo: An unforgettable weekend full of adventure!
On May 14, 2025, a group of family and friends set off for an unforgettable long weekend in Cairo. Your journey will take you into the lively and fascinating world of the Egyptian capital, where you will experience not only the historical sights but also the unique flair of the city.
A highlight of the trip is the visit to the Old Market Khan-el Khalili, which has been known as the largest market in Africa since the 14th century. Here, travelers can discover a wide range of goods, from aromatic spices to intricately embroidered slippers to fine perfumes offered by a local scent magician. To round off the day perfectly, the return journey is by tuk-tuk, a small, colorful vehicle that would be illegal in Europe.
Cultural discoveries
The tour group also has the pleasure of attending a dervish show, which is intended not only for tourists but also for the locals. Your accommodation will be in Pension Roma, a charming low-budget, high-style accommodation in a neoclassical building, lovingly run by an older lady. This personal touch creates a welcoming atmosphere.
The group is accompanied by Isis, a dedicated guide with an Egyptian father and a German mother, who leads them through the exciting streets of Cairo. A significant part of the program is a visit to the impressive Saqqara pyramid, which is older than the neighboring pyramids of Giza. Isis clearly explains the pyramid construction and the beliefs in ancient Egypt. A visit to the Serapeum, where sacred Apis bulls were once buried, is also on the agenda.
The Grand Egyptian Museum
Another significant event during the stay is the soft opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened after 20 years of construction. With an impressive area of 80,000 square meters, the GEM will exhibit an impressive 100,000 artifacts. Including the legendary golden mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, which will be transferred to the museum on this day. For those interested is the official ticket website visit-gem.com the only point of contact for purchasing tickets.
There is currently limited access to several areas of the GEM, including the main galleries and the Great Hall. Particular highlights are the Tutankhamun Galleries and the Khufu’s Boats Museum, although access to them remains restricted until the official opening. The opening hours of the GEM complex are daily except Saturdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On these two days the opening hours are extended until 10:00 p.m.
The anticipation of the experiences is increased even further by a visit to the Greek Club, founded in 1906. Here, visitors not only enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere, but also the wonderful view of the lively Talaat Harb Square. This trip promises to be an unforgettable experience that offers a deep insight into the culture and history of Egypt.
