Travel warnings 2025: Where vacationers are safe and where not!

Summer is coming to an end and many people are already planning their next vacation. In this context, the Foreign Office has again issued travel warnings for various popular holiday destinations. Especially in the Middle East, travel to countries such as Israel, Yemen and Lebanon is strongly discouraged. These warnings have become necessary due to the uncertain situation in the region. Countries such as Egypt are affected by partial travel warnings; the border region with Israel and the north of the Sinai Peninsula are particularly considered unsafe. The Foreign Office is keeping a close eye on the situation, especially after the recent conflicts in the region.

In the United Arab Emirates, however, Dubai is considered one of the safest travel destinations in the region. While there is currently no travel warning for Qatar, the situation there is being closely monitored following an air strike on Hamas in Doha. However, travelers should be aware that there is a global threat of terrorist attacks and kidnappings. Threats from organizations such as Al Qaeda and the Islamic State remain, underscoring the need to be cautious.

Unsafe travel countries and recommendations

The Foreign Office has issued a partial travel warning for Thailand, particularly for the border region with Cambodia. In the Philippines, too, certain areas affected by active terrorist organizations should be avoided. In Armenia and Azerbaijan, only certain parts of the countries are considered safe. There are cautions in Turkey, especially regarding all-inclusive offers. In Europe, travel to Ukraine, Russia and Belarus is not recommended.

However, in some European countries, such as Poland, the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) and Finland, it is currently possible to travel safely. However, the assessment of the security situation varies greatly from country to country and is constantly changing.

Traveler safety awareness

Especially after the terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023, there is an increased potential for mobilization from conflicts in the Middle East. For German citizens abroad, the risk of becoming victims of acts of terrorist violence could increase. An increased threat can be expected in places with symbolic character, such as sights, government buildings or in transport infrastructure. However, the risk of terrorist attacks is low compared to other travel risks.

Travelers should be aware of the risks and act safety-conscious. It is recommended to find out about the conditions in the country you are traveling to before and during your trip and to follow local and international media. Suspicious occurrences, such as unattended luggage, should be reported to local security authorities immediately.

Overall, it shows that caution is still required in the travel world. The recommendations and travel warnings from the Foreign Office must be taken seriously to ensure a safe journey.
