Summer 2025: Gen Z discovers all-inclusive vacations for relaxation!
Summer vacation 2025 is just around the corner and brings with it a significant trend, especially among young people. According to a report by Watson Many young people see their first trips without their parents as an opportunity to experience freedom. There are no museum visits or strict schedules to get in the way; Instead, they enjoy sleeping in and taking part, for example in parties.
Expedia's survey shows that 30 percent of Generation Z, those born between 1997 and 2010, have a more positive view of all-inclusive hotels. This view differs significantly from older opinion and is increasingly popular with young travelers. The trend, originally attributed to the boomer generation, is becoming a preference that is also attracting younger travelers.
All-inclusive and stress reduction
A survey also found that 61 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 prefer all-inclusive hotels. The practical advantages are particularly noteworthy, as 49 percent of participants appreciate that they no longer have to search for restaurants. In addition, 42 percent of respondents reduce stress because an all-inclusive package means they don't have to make any additional planning. Susanne Dopp, spokesperson for Expedia, describes all-inclusive as an “all-inclusive, worry-free package” that is increasingly becoming a feeling of luxury for young travelers.
Another interesting phenomenon is the trend towards “Jomo” – the “Joy of Missing Out”. According to a survey by FeWo Direkt, 88 percent of respondents want a Jomo-style vacation that focuses on the conscious enjoyment of “doing nothing” and focuses on relaxation. More than half of respondents believe this vacation style helps improve sleep and reduce anxiety.
Long-term vacations and attractive travel destinations
Travelers are increasingly looking for long-term vacations, with the trend moving towards stays of more than four weeks. Popular travel destinations for long-term stays include Denmark, Sweden and the North and Baltic Seas. Another trend called “coolcation” shows that more and more people want to spend parts of the summer in regions with more pleasant climate conditions.
When it comes to all-inclusive hotels, long-haul destinations such as Mauritius and Mexico are gaining popularity. Popular all-inclusive holiday destinations for Generation Z are Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum in Turkey and Mallorca, Crete and Rhodes in Greece, followed by Hurghada in Egypt.
Although millennials and Gen Z are increasingly considering all-inclusive options, the question remains whether this trend is truly new. One travel provider, Johannes Betzold, reports that all-inclusive travel has existed for the past 15 to 20 years. However, the significance of the current surveys could be limited because the number of participants is comparatively small. Nevertheless, there is a clear desire for a stress-free holiday with more focus on relaxation and enjoyment.
