Travel behavior in 2025: Fewer trips to the USA due to entry fears, rising prices for cruises and popular Mediterranean destinations.

Holiday anxiety: Germans avoid trips to the USA despite high booking numbers!
Travel agencies in the old district of Münden are currently confronted with changing booking behavior. Travel agency owner Dennis Tränkler from the Butterfly travel agency reports that despite the increased travel prices, bookings for package tours, long-distance trips and cruises in the region are still high. However, travel to the USA in particular is experiencing a significant decline.
Political developments and increased entry hurdles have led to a sharp decline in requests for travel to the USA since Donald Trump's second presidency. Matthias Dalfuß from another travel agency notes that demand has fallen to “less to zero”. Birgitt Schäfer from the travel agency Sallweys has also observed that fewer booking inquiries are being received after the renewed Trump election.
Entry and security concerns
Customers express concerns about entry into the United States, but in the past this has not been a problem due to complete and accurate documentation. The Federal Foreign Office advises travelers to find out about the current entry requirements, which require a valid ESTA or visa and a passport. It should be particularly emphasized that entry via Canada or Mexico is also only possible with these documents ( Foreign Office ).
There are also security concerns as terrorist attacks are possible in the US and violent crime has increased in many major cities. The Foreign Office recommends avoiding crowds and following the instructions of local security forces. Pickpocketing and car break-ins are also common in urban areas. Travelers should therefore inform themselves well and take appropriate precautions.
Price increases and alternative travel destinations
On the other hand, price factors are increasingly influencing travelers' booking behavior. Compared to the previous year, travel prices have increased by an average of 300 to 400 euros, and some offers even cost up to 1,500 euros more. This trend is particularly pronounced in Turkey, which is due to the economic crisis and the decline in the value of the Turkish currency.
Nevertheless, travel destinations in the Mediterranean region remain in high demand. Spain, Greece, Egypt and Turkey continue to top the list of most popular holiday destinations. Cruises are becoming increasingly popular, helped by attractive prices and the rule that children often travel for free. Despite competition from online providers, travel agencies remain in demand in the region. The individual advice and personal customer service continue to attract travelers of all ages.
In summary, it can be seen that the uncertainties regarding travel to the USA, combined with general price increases, have a significant impact on travelers' booking behavior. Future developments in the political landscape and possible further entry regulations could further change travel behavior.
