Adventure on Two Wheels: Justin Berg's Epic Journey to Manila!

Justin Berg, an adventurer from Sulingen, has realized a remarkable part of his dreams with his impressive bike tour entitled “Road to Manila”. He set off from his hometown in December 2023 and covered an impressive 12,000 kilometers in 329 days, crossing 15 countries. As of June 10, 2025, Berg has now been living in Manila, Philippines, for about four weeks, where he is staying with his aunt and her family. The tour ended successfully and he was greeted upon arrival by a police escort and other cyclists, marking the completion of his odyssey journey.

During his journey of over a year, Berg experienced numerous adventures, but also faced challenges. His biggest hurdle was starting the trip and the loneliness he often felt during his tour. A special experience was the hospitality he received in Iran; she exceeded all his expectations. In order to travel safely, Berg bypassed Myanmar due to the political situation there and instead chose the route from Kathmandu, Nepal to Bangkok, Thailand.

Multimedia lecture and culinary insights

On Friday, June 13th, Justin Berg will give a multimedia lecture at the Bärenkämpen meeting center in Minden. The lecture starts at 5:30 p.m. and admission is free. Those interested have the opportunity to register by email or telephone until June 10th. Berg's presentation is part of the “Bear Hunger” cooking project, which not only gives visitors insights into his trip, but also provides culinary experiences with a typical local snack and drinks during the break. Registrations are possible at k.loechelt@minden.de or by calling 0571/38874936.

Another notable detail of his trip is his satisfaction with his equipment. Despite the challenge of combining parts of the bike from different countries – such as pedals from Pakistan and a bell from Serbia – his bike survived the journey well.

Future plans and thoughts of returning

Although Berg now lives in Manila, he plans to stay longer, possibly spending a year there. He wants to learn the local language, Tagalog, and get to know his family better. He also already has concrete plans to return to Sulingen to give a presentation about his trip. In the future, he sees himself in a position to go on more bike rides, give lectures, write books and even make films. He emphasizes that you should pursue your dreams without waiting for the perfect time.

Justin Berg's inspiring journey of self-discovery and a powerful message of determination and adventure is an encouragement to anyone who dreams of pushing their own limits.
