Iran starts military exercises – USA warns of new conflicts!
Iranian armed forces began military exercises earlier than planned today, June 12, 2025. The focus of the exercises is on the “movements of the enemy”. This development comes at a time when tensions between Iran, the USA and Israel have increased significantly. US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran if its nuclear program was not restricted. South Tyrol News reports that Israel views Iran's nuclear program as a serious threat and does not rule out military intervention.
Israel is “fully ready” for a military operation against Iran, according to US officials. In return, Tehran is preparing to retaliate against Israel in the event of an attack. In this context, the US has issued travel warnings for government employees in Israel in response to the ongoing tensions. Travel outside the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beer Sheva is currently prohibited. The instruction remains in effect until further notice, as confirmed by the US Embassy in Israel .
Military escalation and diplomatic efforts
In addition, the USA is reducing embassy staff in Iraq for security reasons. This decision is based on “recent analysis” that suggests an imminent Israeli attack on Iran as a possible reason. According to reports, the current situation could lead to the evacuation of non-essential personnel and the family members of diplomats. While the Iraqi military asserts that there is no real threat to diplomatic missions in Iraq, the US has nevertheless taken measures to ensure the safety of its personnel .
The tensions in the Middle East should be viewed against the backdrop of new talks between the USA and Iran over the Iranian nuclear program. These negotiations will take place in Oman next weekend, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi confirmed. This sixth round of talks follows several failed rounds of negotiations to replace the nuclear deal that the US withdrew from in 2018 .
Enrichment program and international concerns
One of the central points of contention in the talks is uranium enrichment. Iran insists on enriching uranium for civilian purposes as envisaged in the 2015 deal, while the US sees this as a “red line”. Western states, particularly Israel, accuse Iran of secretly working on nuclear weapons, something Tehran vehemently denies. A May report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) shows that Iran has sharply increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent, while nuclear weapons require an enrichment level of around 90 percent .
The US is withdrawing personnel from the Gulf region as tensions rise. This not only affects embassy employees from Kuwait and Bahrain, but the voluntary departure of family members of American soldiers has also been approved. The US Embassy in Iraq also warned American citizens against traveling to Iraq. In light of these developments, Iran threatened to attack US military bases in the Middle East in the event of a conflict .
