The Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall in Arthur’s Pass is an impressive but easily accessible 131 meter high waterfall that falls into the incredible Arthur’s Pass National Park. A complete guide to visit this Devils Punchbowl if with everything you need to know!

One of the best and therefore most popular activities around the Arthur’s Pass is a visit to the mighty waterfall Devil’s Punchbowl. After just a short hike through local forests and wooden bridges, hikers reach a viewing platform that offers an incredible view and photo opportunities on these spectacular, highly towering waterfall.

In this guide, I will describe everything you need to know about visiting Devils Punchbowl if, including arrival, what awaits you and photographs from my visit.

How do you get to Devils Punchbowl Waterfall New Zealand?

The short hiking trail to the Devil’s Punchbowl waterfall is only 700 meters north of the Athur’s Pass visitor center. There are enough parking spaces both at the visitor center and in the designated parking lot for the waterfall itself.

From the parking lot there are significant signposts that show the direction to the waterfall. The short walk begins at the bridge and continues upwards, slightly rising into the lush beech forest before ending on a wooden viewing platform directly below the waterfalls.

The short walk to the Devils Punchbowl waterfall cannot really be seen as a hike. It is more of a short, climbed leisure walk. These are great news for people who are looking for a quick solution for a waterfall that is easy to reach from the highway.

This waterfall path is short, but scenic and offers a great foretaste of the incredible natural variety of Arthur’s Pass region.

What you expect from Devil's punchbowl Waterfall Arthur’s Pass

This waterfall is very high and falls down the steep mountain wall behind the viewing platform. Steep rocky tops surround the waterfalls and form the "punchbowl" after which it is named.

Although this is very accessible, in my opinion it was one of the most spectacular waterfalls in New Zealand!

Unfortunately, access to the actual waterfall is prohibited due to the dangerous rockfall around the waterfalls. But don't worry, that doesn't mean that you don't have a great view of the waterfall.

The Doc has built a wooden viewing platform that is perfectly suited to set up a tripod or just enjoy the view. From here you have a look at the Devils Punchbowl waterfall and the stream, which rushes down the mossy rocks underneath.
