Starting point of the Queenstown Hill hike

OK, but where is the starting point in Queenstown Hill? The starting point of the hiking trail is located on the Belfast Terrace, which is located in a labyrinth steep, winding suburban hill behind the city.

When you get out of the city, you already have a 20-minute warming up on the old legs. The easiest way to find the starting point is to follow Google's instructions to the PIN below.

What to be expected

In a real queenstown manner, the Queenstown Hill hike begins in suburbs and quickly turns into an epic natural path.

The path leads through dense beech and fir forests before it finally breaks out on the grass-covered crest.

Along the route there are some occasions to catch an early glimpse of Queenstown through the trees and shrubs. Keep an eye out for opossum and bright red mushrooms, but don't think about eating.

The slope is quite moderate, but you need general fitness to cope with the approximately 400 meters of altitude. Since this route is popular with runners and day hikers, there are a few benches on which you can stop and rest if necessary.

Optional Queenstown Hill "Viewpoint" loop

At about 1.3 km along the way, they come across a fork that divides the path into two parts. You can follow the left path that leads directly to the summit or follow the right path to a "vantage point". Unfortunately, the viewpoint is not worth the additional 15 minutes on foot, since the tree line now covers most of the view.

However, it could be a good idea to take the left path up and confuse it by taking the loop on the way down.

Queenstown Hill Summit and view

When we arrived at the summit of the Queenstown Hill, we had an excellent view of Queenstown, the Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables and the towering Ben Lomond.

You have the best view at the summit of the Queenstown Hill hike, but there are also some smaller hills underneath when the summit is overcrowded.
