Flinder's Chase National Park: What you shouldn't miss
The Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island is one of the most beautiful parks in southern Australia. We take a look at seven sights that you shouldn't miss
The Flinders Chase National Park extends over the western end of Kangaroo Island and houses a wild coast, a diverse wildlife and some really extraordinary sights. The park has steadily recovered from the bush fires, which destroyed over 400 square kilometers of land in 2007, and today offers a unique Australian landscape of sugar-gum Baldachinen and Mallee-Gestrüp.
The park also houses strange rock formations, remote bush hikes and fascinating monuments of the isolation of the early European pioneers who made it to the brim of the well -known world. We spent a day exploring the park and listing below what you shouldn't miss.
1. Remarkable rocks

It took over 500 million years of intensive rain, wind and the roaring waves of the southern ocean to create these granite rocks that form one of the symbols of Kangaroo Island.
The much photographed remarkable rocks are 70 m above the roaring waves of the southern ocean and are among the most beautiful sights on Kangaroo Island.
2. Cape du Couedic

The lighthouse on Cape Du Couedic was built from 1906 to 1909 and remained manned until 1957 when it was automated. The striking tower is built from 2,000 stone blocks from the region and, although it is not accessible, offers an impressive photo.
It is worth noting that southern smooth whales pull through the area from the beginning of May to the end of October. Pay attention to your blow holes and splashes on the surface when you appear out of the water.
3. Weirs Bay

For many years, Weirs Cove was inaccessible on the country path, so that the supplies were arrived here for a large part of the island by steamship and then the steep 90 m high cliff.
1907 a flying-fox wind system was built, so instead were brought to the jetty with co-boats and then with a wind that was originally driven by two horses, the cliffs were pulled up.
Today you can look over the decommissioned jetty
4. Admirals arch

The natural rock bridge known as Admirals Arch was shaped by the thousands of erosion. A wooden footbridge around the cliff leads to a viewing platform with a view of the sheet.
The area is also the home of a colony of Langnasen-Pelz seal. The adult seals sunbathe only a short piece of the waves in the sun, while the puppies can be observed while playing between the rocks.
5. Lighthouse on Cape Borda

Cape Borda is located in the northwestern corner of Kangaroo Island and the Flinders Chase National Park and is the only square stone lighthouse in South Australia.
The lighthouse built in 1858 overlooks the investigator Strait, the waters between Kangaroo Island and the Yorke Peninsula on the Australian mainland.
Cape Borda was built to lead ships at the "Roaring Forties" trade route towards Adelaide. The lighthouse was fully automated in 1989 and is still in operation today. In contrast to the Cape Du Couedic, it is possible to enter the lighthouse and take part in a tour for 16 Aud ($ 12).
