First: How to come to Magnetic Island

The journey to Magnetic Island is as simple as a 40-minute ride on the ferry from Townsville.

The best ferry society is Sealink, which runs to Townsville to the Nelly Bay ferry terminals about an hour.

The cheapest Sealink ticket can be booked online in advance at Getyourguide, which gives you a scanning QR code that you can use on your phone.

The costs for the return trip to Magnetic Island on Sealink are Alt = “Magnetic Island Sunset, Magnetic Island Best Things to Do, Magnetic Island Attractions”>

Magnetic Island Sunset Locations

I am sure that the sunset will be epic everywhere on Magnetic Island. However, if you are looking for the best places to make snapshots from sunset on Magnetic Island, you should consider the following locations.

horseshoe bay

Horseshoe Bay is located at the northern end of Magnetic Island and is the island hotspot for jet skiing and kayaking. It is also one of the best places on the island to capture the sunset.

In the drier months, the sun goes down right next to the western headland and throws its colors and light over the bay. There are usually many sailing boats that drive through, which ensures epic images.

The Wrack Out viewpoint of Magnetic Island in the Cockle Bay

An epic viewpoint on the south side of Magnetic Island is a secret local viewpoint that is known as Sail Rock.

From here, the sun will go down over the island and illuminate the sky around the bays. The best thing about this sunset is that you will most likely have it for yourself.

This place is located on a hill with a view of Cockle Bay and Picnic Bay. You can even see the famous wreck of the SS City of Adelaide in the distance, a great place to experience the magical sunset on Magnetic Island.

The forts

The forts are one of the most popular hikes or bush hikes on Magnetic Island, but for good reason.

The hike begins at the forts car park on Horshoe Bay Road. Then it continues up the mountain to some historical fortifications from the Second World War.

There are many places where you can stop and watch the sunset over the bays. However, my personal favorite place for sunset on Magnetic Island is on the upper fortress. This will reward you with a 360-degree panoramic view over the island, and you can watch the sunset perfectly behind the headland in Horseshoe Bay.

During the walk, keep an eye out for Wilden Koalas, because the forts Walk is one of the best places to watch them in Queensland.

radical bay

If you are looking for a more remote bay to observe the sunsets of the tropical island on the water, then Radical Bay would be a great option.

Radical Bay is only a short walk from Horseshoe Bay if you follow a 20-minute path from the east side of the beach.

Another alternative near Radical Bay is Balding Bay. However, remember that it is a nudist beach, so it is probably best not to bring a camera with you.

If you wonder how to get to Radical Bay and the surrounding bays, you can read the full blog post below.
