Mena Creek Falls & Paronella Park - complete guide
Mena Creek Falls is located in addition to the tourist attraction Paronella Park in a small rural city on the Cassowary Coast, just 19 km from Innisfail. Read this complete guide to visit Mena Creek Falls.
When I heard about the Mena Creek Fall for the first time, I had the impression that they are on the private property of the Paronella Park. The truth, however, is that both the foot of the waterfall and the viewpoint are available to the public free of charge from above.
Therefore, visiting Mena Creek if a road trip on the Cassowary Coast from Cairns is a worthwhile addition to the travel route, even if you are not ready to visit the Paronella Park.
The waterfall at MENA CREEK Falls is a one -time waterfall that falls into a huge freshwater pool surrounded by the 7 million year old basalt column. Due to the 3-meter crocodile, which is at home here, it is not known as a good bathing place!

About Mena Creek Falls and Paronella Park
Waterfall height: 6 meters
Mena Creek Falls has its fame from the adjacent castle, which was built by José Paronella in the 1930s. According to the story, José dreamed of building a castle after emigrating from Spain to Australia in the early 20th century to work on the sugar cane.
apparently bought José in 1929 for only £ 120 13 tomorrow Buschland next to Mena Creek and spent the next decade to build his castle and plant over 7,500 tropical plants and trees to create the now blooming rainforest. He also built a hydropower plant from the waterfall flow that could supply the entire park with electricity. It was the first of its kind in North Queensland.
he opened his dream lock (Paronella Park) for the public in 1935 and it is still one of the most excellent tourist attractions in Queensland.
There is a suspension bridge that connects the grass -covered park on the side of the waterfall with the Paronella Park. While you have to pay an entry fee to enter the park, everyone can explore the Mena Creek Falls from the grass or the hiking trail to the foot of the waterfalls.

Mena Creek Falls-Where is that?
The municipality of Mena Creek is hidden behind the Basilisk Range, on the west side of the Bruce Highway, about 19 kilometers from InnisFail, 46 kilometers from Mission Beach and 110 kilometers from Cairns.
This small town in the country is known for its waterfall of the same name, which is located directly on the main street (InnisFail-Japoon Road). This curvy country road is paved and winds through the lush landscape with sugar cane fields and connects two access points at the Bruce Hwy (in Innisfail and Silkwood).
How do I get here
To get to the Mena Creek if if there is no tours or public transport.
Therefore, this pit stop at the waterfall is a perfect scenic detour on an eastern coast trip, regardless of whether you drive from INISFAIL to the south or from Mission Beach to the north.
Since there are two access points, the directions depend on whether they come from the north or south.
drive south from Innisfail on the Bruce Hwy and turn right onto the Boogan Road. Follow this street to a T-crossing in the tiny community of South Johnston. Bend left here and follow this street until you reach the Mena Creek if right.
drive north on the Bruce Highway towards Silkwood. Turn left at the gas station (Silkwood Japoon Road) and follow it until the intersection next to the Silkwood State School. Turn right here, then cross the bridge and turn left. Follow this street until you reach the Mena Creek Fall (there are signs to Paronella Park).

What you expect at the Mena Creek if "
If you would rather see a waterfall on the roadside when you stop a pit, then the Mena Creek Falls are perfect. We only spent most of an hour to explore the waterfall, because warning signs for crocodiles do not make us too enthusiastic about swimming here.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our time to take a few pictures from the tip of the waterfall and the suspension bridge. We also took the short rainforest path, which was found next to the bathing rooms opposite the grass -covered parking area next to the waterfall. This leads to a viewing platform below the Mena Creek Falls.

Visit to the Paronella Park
Entry price: $ 48
Since I prefer natural hikes and adventures, the castle and the rainforest park did not seem to be particularly interested. When I say that, I understand that many people who visit the Mena Cree Falls also want to explore the old castle and the garden.
You can enter the park at the ticket counter directly around the curve of the Mena Creek Falls. Here you get some information about the park before you set off to explore the labyrinth of castles, bridges, tunnels, secret stairs and fountains built by Jose Paronella.
You can pay for more comfort on arrival or, for more comfort, simply book an admission ticket on your phone via this link.
