McLean Falls in the Catlins, New Zealand

McLean Falls in the Catlins, New Zealand

McLean Falls New Zealand is a popular waterfall hike in the Catlins Coastal region for a worthwhile waterfall with several levels!

mClean Falls, Catlins, New Zealand, is a popular but faster stopover, which is worthy on every road trip route from Catlin. The waterfall is very easily accessible and is one of my personal favorite waterfalls in the area.

How do you get to the McLean Falls?

The McLean Falls are on the Tautuku River and can best be reached by your own car or motorhome. The road conditions are paved, but the last piece of about 3 kilometers follows a gravel road before it ends in the large parking lot.

The best way to find it is to follow the instructions for the card pen below.

There are also many signs on the Chaslands Highway that you ask you to turn. The street that you have to follow to the waterfall parking lot is called "Recastle Road".

MClean Falls Walk

League of difficulty, 30 minutes back and forth. The walk to one of Catlin's most famous waterfalls is pleasant and simple. The first section has climbed with boards before entering the jungle, where they follow the Tautuku river to the waterfalls.

Along the hike there are actually numerous great freshwater bathrooms, so keep an eye out near the start of the route.

After about 10-15 minutes on foot, you can reach the lowest waterfall. However, you shouldn't stay here too long, as it has been designated by the Doc as a stone chill area. Go a few more minutes and you will reach the clearing for the two main waterfalls.

At the end of the walk, we were surprised that there was no direct access to the larger, most important McLean Falls water cases. However, this was not too big problem because it is easy to climb the low rocks on the right side of the waterfalls and then go to the main waterfall.

Nevertheless, this part is not really necessary, since from here you can still admire the lower waterfalls and take a look at the McLean Falls.
