The planned signing of a friendship treaty between Germany and the United Kingdom will take place in London on Thursday. The main aim of this agreement is to facilitate travel for German teachers and their classes to the UK without the need for passports or visas. This is particularly significant as traveling to the UK after Brexit involves a lot of bureaucracy. The German government emphasizes that the agreement should quickly bring about positive changes for the citizens of both countries, especially in the area of ​​student exchanges.

The aim of this trip is to strengthen relations between North Rhine-Westphalia and Great Britain. Holthoff-Pförtner emphasizes the special connection between the two regions and announced a declaration of intent to deepen exchange in various areas, including business, student and youth exchange as well as science and research.

Collaboration in different areas

After his stay in London, the minister traveled on to Manchester, where he spoke to Mayor Andy Burnham about the possibilities for cooperation between Greater Manchester and the Ruhr Regional Association. Both regions agreed to work closely together in areas such as climate change, green infrastructure, digitalization and research, emphasizing the historical connections and the challenges that can only be overcome together.
