Which country has the cleanest air in the world?
The countries with the cleanest air in the world were ranked in a new report. We take a look at the results
According to the latest World Air Quality Report by IQAIR, the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico has the cleanest air in the world. The report lists 106 countries and areas after the content of fine dust in the air.
Air pollution still represents one of the greatest threats to human health and causes the death of seven million people every year. Another billions suffer from the effects of poor air quality. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 92 % of the world's population breathe in toxic air.
Puerto Rico, a united in the United States, has the cleanest air in the world, followed by the French territory of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean with the territory of American maiden islands.
The highest ranking sovereign states are Sweden (4th), Finland (5th), Norway (6th), Estonia (7th) and New Zealand (8.).
At the other end of the spectrum, Bangladesh has the worst air quality, followed by Pakistan, India, Mongolia and Afghanistan.

air quality index
The report analyzes results of over 60,000 surveillance stations around the world and is therefore the world's largest centralized platform for measuring air quality.
It is also based on data collected by thousands of initiatives for clean air that are managed by governments, non -profit organizations, citizens, municipalities and private companies.
The report focuses on PM2.5 concentrations, as this is the pollutant that is generally considered the most harmful for human health. PM2.5 is defined as an air -worn particle with a size of up to 2.5 micrometers. A micrometer (or micrometer) is a millionth meter or a millimeter thousand.

Due to its microscopic size, the particles can get into the bloodstream via the respiratory system and wander through the body, which leads to a series of health problems, including asthma, lung cancer and heart disease.
air pollution is also associated with a low birth weight, increased acute respiratory infections and strokes.
The Air Quality conductive value for a demonstrably harmless PM2.5 exposure is 10 µg/m³ or 10 micrograms of air pollutants per cubic meter.
There are only 25 of the 106 rated countries or areas that meet these guidelines.

The report also creates a ranking for thousands of cities in the world. Delhi became famous in the headlines in 2020 when the city experienced a drastically improved air quality than was introduced due to the pandemic.
However, the city soon returned to “normality” when environmental pollution reached an “emergency level” in November 2020 and the city was wrapped in a densely poisonous smog.
