Camping at Bradys Lake Tasmania - Epic Free Camping

Everything you need to know about camping on one of the best free campsites in Tasmania-Bradys Lake in the Central Highlands of Tasmania.

After we had driven around the popular east coast for over a month, we absolutely wanted to explore a few remote places in Tasmania away from the beaten path. In this short blog post I will sketch our camping experience at the Bradys Lake and add photos from which I hope you will inspire you to visit!

How to come to the campsite Bradys Lake

The Bradys Lake is located near the Lake Binney Forest Reserve in the Central Highlands region in Tasmania. The campsite is located directly on the Lyell Highway, about 2 hours from Hobart and 2 hours from Launceston.

Since it is on the Lyell Highway, the directions to the campsite is pretty easy. However, keep in mind that there is no reception in the area, so I advise you to charge the Google Maps path descriptions before you leave.

As soon as you have reached the PIN mentioned below, turn on an unpaved road. This street is well graded and we got along quite well with our large motorhome. All campsites are located directly on the water on the west side of the Bradys Lake and you can park your van or caravan on the grass.

What you can expect from camping on Bradys Lake Lake Tasmania

When we arrived at Bradys Lake, we knew that this campsite was exactly what we were looking for. Apart from a single fisherman, we were the only ones on the lake. We chose a place a few places below the bridge and immediately went to work to light our campfire.

things to do

switch off and switch off

There is no reception on the Bradys Lake, which means that it is the perfect place to switch off, pull the plug and just relax. The remote location also means that the only neighbors you will have are probably either a cow or a wallaby.

Cooking dinner at the campfire

Similar to many free campsites in Tasmania, there are every campsite along the Bradys Lake Felslagerfeuer. Cooking a meal of the open fire in the great outdoors is definitely the outstanding highlight for our visit in this epic place.

fishing

This lake region is known in Tasmania for first -class stream trout fishing. Unfortunately we didn't fish much, so I can't say much about it. However, if that is your thing, I would say, definitely pack the rod and hooks on your boat (there is also a boat ramp).
