Everything you need to know about camping at one of Tasmania's best free campsites - Bradys Lake in Tasmania's Central Highlands.

After over a month of driving around the popular east coast, we were keen to explore some of Tasmania's more remote locations off the beaten track. In this short blog post I will outline our camping experiences at Bradys Lake and include photos that I hope will inspire you to visit!

How to get to Bradys Lake Campground

Bradys Lake is located near Lake Binney Forest Reserve in the Central Highlands region of Tasmania. The campsite is located just off the Lyell Highway, approximately 2 hours from Hobart and 2 hours from Launceston.

Since it's on the Lyell Highway, directions to the campground are pretty easy. However, keep in mind that there is no reception in the area, so I advise you to load the Google Maps directions before you leave.

Once you reach the pin mentioned below, turn onto a dirt road. This road is well graded and we managed quite well with our large motorhome. All campsites are waterfront on the west side of Bradys Lake and you can park your van or caravan on the grass.

What to Expect When Camping at Bradys Lake Tasmania

When we arrived at Bradys Lake we knew this campground was exactly what we were looking for. Apart from a single fisherman, we were the only ones on the lake. We chose a spot a few spots below the jetty and immediately got to work lighting our campfire.

Things to do

Switching off and unwinding

There is no reception at Bradys Lake, meaning it is the perfect place to unwind, unplug and simply relax. The remote location also means that the only neighbors you will likely have are either a cow or a wallaby.

Cooking dinner around the campfire

Similar to many free campsites in Tasmania, there are rock bonfires at every campsite along Bradys Lake. Cooking a meal over an open fire in the great outdoors is definitely the standout highlight of our visit to this epic place.

fishing

This lake region is known for world-class brown trout fishing in Tasmania. Unfortunately we didn't do much fishing so I can't say much about it. However, if that's your thing, I'd say definitely pack a rod and hook on your boat (there's also a boat ramp).

Facilities and useful information

Below are some things you should know before heading to Bradys Lake Tasmania.
