Aida Cruises says travel to Dubai and Abu Dhabi because of security situation

In a remarkable decision, Aida Cruises announced on July 10, 2025 that the shipping ships of the shipping company will no longer drive from Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the coming winter season. This applies in particular to the AIDA great, which was originally planned for trips to the Orient. The step is a direct reaction to the continued tense security situation in the Middle East, which has been tightening since the recent conflicts, especially since Hamas's attack on Israel in October 2023. In this context, according to Reise reporters for AIDA the top priority.

Overall, Aida Cruises then deleted planned transfer trips for autumn and spring 2026 and instead offers new trips in Northern Europe and the Canary Islands. With this decision, AIDA wants to create "the earliest possible clarity". The AIDA Prima will start from Hamburg from Hamburg from October 2025 to destinations in Norway and Western Europe. From the beginning of November there are also seven -day trips to the metropolises of the Baltic Sea, including Tallinn, Helsinki and Stockholm as well as a fjord trip to Norway from Kiel.

Alternative routes and refunds

For customers who had already booked trips, AIDA offers alternative offers and a voucher of ten percent of the cabin price. This applies to bookings that were made before the announcements. The originally planned trips to the AIDA Prima around the Canary Islands are temporarily taken over by the AIDA Bella, which will be modernized from January to March 2026 in the shipyard in Marseille.

In addition to AIDA Cruises, TUI also canceled several cruises. A total of 19 cruises were deleted by various lines, including five by TUI, which also concentrate on other routes for security reasons. TUI offers affected customers discounts from ten percent on new bookings. The "Mein Schiff 5" is now being diverted around Africa and can only be incorporated into Heraklion later.

Security in the Red Sea

The security situation in the Red Sea remains tense, not least due to attacks by the Yemeni Huthi militia and the events around the Gaza conflict. Attacks on civil ships with rockets and drones have strengthened, which leads to a significant decline in goods transport by the Suez channel and thus to impair the global logistics network. International warships, including the Bundeswehr, are trying to ward off most of the attacks, but there have already been severe incidents.

AIDA Cruises and other cruise companies adapt their timetables considering these developments to ensure the safety of their guests and employees. The new booking policy and the reimbursements are part of these efforts.
