Freddy Quinn Reveals Secrets: His Autobiography As It Really Was Appears!

Freddy Quinn, the legendary musician and entertainer, will release his highly anticipated autobiography on May 22, 2025. Originally scheduled for May 31, 2025, the publication date was brought forward to give his fans and readers an earlier glimpse into his eventful life. The title of the book was changed from “The Curtain Falls” to “How It Really Was,” which brings the content into focus: For the first time, Quinn talks openly and honestly about his childhood, his experiences and the various roles he has taken on in his life.

The book consists of 264 pages and contains numerous unpublished photos from Freddy Quinn's private archive. Known for hits like “Homesick” and “Boy, Come Back Soon,” he describes his current thoughts as a 93-year-old about his childhood, including running away from his stepfather and his experiences in the circus. His discovery in the famous Washington Bar in Hamburg, where his career began, is also discussed. Quinn says he wants to show the world what it really was like and not just the half-truths and legends that are circulating about him.

Insights into the life of a star

In his autobiography, Freddy Quinn goes into depth and discusses not only his successes in the 50s and 60s, when he sold over 60 million records and performed with greats like Johnny Cash, but also the difficult times in his life. He speaks openly about the tax evasion trial and times of loneliness he faced. A special chapter is dedicated to his late wedding at the age of 91. Quinn describes his wife Rosi as “the greatest blessing that could have happened to me” and emphasizes how important she has become in his life.

Additionally, Quinn comments on his family background. For decades he was considered the epitome of the lonely sailor, even though he never went to sea. He also contradicts rumors about his biological father, whose absence was a familiar sight to him. Quinn suspects that his father was killed by his half-brother in 1965, but maintains that he has no evidence of this. He also portrays the stories about his move to his father in the USA and his alleged primary school attendance in Morgantown, West Virginia, as fictional.

The path to autobiography

Freddy Quinn, who was born in Vienna, experienced some confusion regarding his birthplace, as his birth certificate shows. During his career he lived in seclusion for many years in Hamburg, where he now lives in the countryside with his wife Rosi. Although he didn't have a partner publicly by his side for decades in order to maintain his loner image, it is clear how much his life changed with his marriage.

“As It Really Was” is not only a look back at his illustrious career, which includes ten number one hits and numerous films and appearances, but also reflects his inner desire to write his own final chapter. Freddy Quinn works closely with “Bild” editor Daniel Böcking on the biography and takes the freedom to finally tell the truth about himself without taking into account images created by the record company.

Freddy Quinn's autobiography is an impressive document about a life full of ups and downs, and fans can look forward to many exciting insights. For information about its upcoming release, visit schlager.de as well as at NDR.
