Phang Nga is booming: Tourism is growing thanks to new resorts and infrastructure!

The Khao Lak region and Phang Nga province are experiencing a remarkable boom in the tourism sector. Average daily rate (ADR) increased seven percent, while revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased six percent.

Growth factors and infrastructure investments

High occupancy of the hotels was also noted: at 79 percent, this is above the pre-crisis level of 2019. The data from The Thaiger show that 1.1 million guests arrived in Khao Lak in the first quarter of this year - a further increase of nine percent compared to the same period last year. The market occupancy rate was 75.1 percent, showing the positive development of the sector.

An outstanding project in the region is the newly opened Khao Lak Marriott Beach Resort & Spa, which offers 283 rooms as well as several restaurants and lagoon pools. This resort is a significant step in promoting the tourism sector and supports the strategic expansion of the Marriott brand in the growth-oriented Phang Nga region.

Future developments and projects

In addition, an integrated resort project called “Matalay” is being worked on, which will combine residential, hotel and retail spaces. This could further promote the long-term development of the region. Property prices in Phang Nga are also experiencing an increase due to new resort complexes and villa projects.

An additional important project is the planning of the Andaman International Airport in the Khok Kloi district, which is expected to handle 22.5 million passengers annually. The Airports of Thailand (AOT) is already exploring a public-private partnership model to finance this project.

Finally, a Maritime Hub Project will be launched to improve sea routes between Phuket, Koh Yao and Krabi by 2027. Overall, Khao Lak and Phang Nga are positioning themselves as dynamic growth markets in Thai tourism, supported by a strong focus on infrastructure and high-quality offerings.
