Vietnamic football under pressure: U22 and national team are preparing!

Hanoi, Vietnam - On May 29, 2025, the Vietnamese national team took the first step to prepare for the upcoming challenges. During the FIFA days in June, a strategic meeting between the National and the U22 team of the Vietnamese Football Association (VFF) will take place to establish a sustainable future for football in the country. The focus is on both the Asia Cup qualification 2027 as well as on the upcoming U23 championship and the Sea Games.

coach Kim Sang-Sik has published the list of 23 national players who are gathering in Hanoi today. This team preserves the squad that won the Asean Cup in 2024 and includes players like Dinh Trieu, Duy Manh and Quang Hai. A special highlight is the first appearance of the Vietnamese-American defender Cao Vinh, who recently received Vietnamese citizenship. In addition, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip returns to the team after a family absence.

U22 team in full preparation

At the same time, the U22 team under coach Dinh Hong Vinh started their training phase with 26 players. The preparation focuses on the Southeast Asian U23 championship 2025 as well as the Asian U23 qualification 2026 and the 33rd Sea Games. Two new talents, the Vietnamese-American player Bui Alex, who plays in the Czech Republic, and some promising players abroad, expand the perspectives for the U22.

The Sea Games 33 in Thailand are a clearly defined goal for the U22 who want to regain the gold medal. VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized the challenge, while coach Kim Sang Sik has been organizing intensive training camps since 2024 to optimally prepare the team.
