Vietnam is committed to exciting renewal in tourism – Congress 2025 started!

The Congress of the Party Committee of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam for the term 2025-2030 was held on May 28, 2025. Nguyen Trung Khanh, secretary of the party committee and director of the National Tourism Administration, opened the event and emphasized the need to achieve achievements in a competitive atmosphere. The congress was marked by the successes of seven previously organized party cell congresses that took place under the party committee. In the past five years, the Party Committee has been recognized for its excellent work and has actively implemented the resolution of the 12th Central Committee to prevent the decline of political ideology and morals.

The agenda of the Congress included summarizing the results of the previous term, discussing and approving reports, and electing a new Executive Committee. Ha Van Sieu, deputy director of the National Tourism Administration, presented a policy report highlighting the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other global issues. The congress follows the motto “Discipline, responsibility, initiative, creativity, sustainable efficiency” and is committed to establishing tourism as Vietnam's leading economic sector. Deputy Minister Ho An Phong praised the National Tourism Administration's achievements and called for active planning for the rapid and sustainable recovery of tourism.

Preparing for the future

In 2024, congress participants expect 17.5 million international visitors and 110 million domestic visitors, bringing estimated total revenue of about VND840 trillion. To achieve these goals, it is crucial that the National Tourism Administration demonstrates creative solutions and solidarity to overcome the challenges and put into practice the resolutions adopted by Congress.

According to McKinsey, Vietnam's tourism sector has come under significant pressure in recent years. Global tourism spending fell 35 to 48 percent in 2020 compared to 2019, exacerbated by the ten-month international border closure. In this context, Vietnam has adopted a zero-case strategy to both win the trust of travelers and sustainably promote the economy.

Strategies to revive tourism

Demand for domestic travel is increasing as holidaymakers are willing to spend their money locally. In recent years, the tourism sector in Vietnam has created 660,000 jobs and there are hopes that tourism will return to pre-crisis levels by 2024. To promote this reconstruction, several measures have been proposed to stimulate the tourism sector, including:

With a growing trend towards activities over accommodation spending, Vietnam could further expand its potential as an adventure destination and channel investments into smaller projects. There is an increasing focus on ensuring the government's role and creating sustainable financing options to help the industry recover and grow.

The National Tourism Administration Congress is taking an important step into a new era of Vietnamese tourism development, in which creativity and networking are key to successful recovery. The next five years could be crucial in determining how Vietnam advances its global integration and development.
