Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek - the complete guide
Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek - the complete guide
For many, the hike to the basic camp Ama Dablam will be a clear highlight of your hike to the Everest base bearing or the three high passes in the Khumbu. I know exactly that it was for me!
This hike leads you to a height of 4580 m at the foot of one of the most beautiful and powerful mountains in the Himalaya Mountains.
This blog post serves as more detailed guidance for those who try the hike as a day trip.
Travel insurance for Himalaya trekking and AMA DABLAM
For most trekker who want to tackle the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek, travel insurance is at the top of their list of priorities.
I always buy travel insurance at Worldnomads.com because I think they are the best for adventure travelers. It includes insurance coverage for medical care abroad, evacuation, luggage and a number of adventure sports and activities.
You can buy online and claim claims even after you have left the house. Travel insurance from Worldnomads.com are available from over 130 countries.

Ama dablam
The thumb-like summit stands out in the Himalayan landscape from Namche Bazaar to Kallar Pathar. It is one of the most powerful and picturesque peaks in the whole world and my personal favorite.
The highest point of Ama Dablam is 6812 m, while the smaller western summit measures 6170 m.
Ama Dablam is a climbing summit for which a special permit is required and which should not be committed without a professional guide. Climbers need several days to reach the summit of Ama Dablam, and unfortunately many people died in the attempt.
It is a strong and humiliating feeling to sit in the base camp of Ama Dablam and know that human life was given for the hunt for the mountain. It is difficult not to feel much respect for the climbers who give everything for these summits.

Arrival to the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek
Ama Dablam is about one or two day hikes from Namche Bazaar or at least three to four days from Lukla. The hike to the basic camp Ama Dablam is usually carried out as a day trip or acclimatization hike for Trekker on the EBC or Three High Passes-Trekkings.
You must follow the right acclimatization principles if you reach the start of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Treks, remember to do your research and plan accordingly. If you plan the three-high pass hike,

The Ama Dablam Trailhead from Panboche
The starting point begins and ends at the other end of Panboche, right next to the Sonam Lodge. The map below gives you an approximate location. However, it is easy to continue the path through Panboche and look for signs that indicate the Ama Dablam Base Camp near the lodge.
For unfortunate trekker I would recommend staying in Panboche and leaving your luggage in the lodge. The path is pretty steep and much better to enjoy with a light daily backpack.
It is important to have a physical Everest Three Passes Trek card when hiking in the Khumbu.
This guide should not replace a correct card and should be a supplement to individual research and trekking preparation efforts.
Hike to the basic camp Ama Dablam
initial height: 3900 MAMA Dablam base bearing height: 4580 m Total climb: 680 m overall descent: 680 m Total hiking time: 5 hours At the Sonam Lodge, follow the sign along the ridge and make the comfortable and slow descent into a small bridge at the foot of the Dudh Kosi river.
A note: When you complete the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek, you will reach a height of 4580 m. Many hikers, including me, can feel signs of AMS. It is important to monitor the symptoms and climb slowly.

Section one-steep
After the bridge, you may notice some hateful yaks that eat the dry Himalaya grass while going up the rocky path up to the foot of a grass-covered slope that is covered with boulders.
The path seems to disappear when you climb this steep hill. Soon, when they get higher, a number of prayer flags near the tip of the cliff will be visible. Go to this to have a fantastic view of Panboche and the Dudh Kosi to Dingboche.
From here you can also watch the eroding gorge on the other side and listen to the huge stone strokes that plunge into the valley below.

Section two-apartment
Find the path for a short break at the viewpoint of the prayer flag, which leads in the same direction along a flat level, and absorb it.
This part of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Treks meanders through grassy and sandy sections and is largely flat for about 45 minutes.
Although the path disappears in sections, a visible path will be clear and visible in the distance. Make sure that you only try this in good conditions, because I can imagine that it would be easy to get lost in a blizzard.

Section three-steep
The last section is steep and begins near a flowing water. This is most likely frozen on the surface and sometimes covered with snow, so make sure that you don't get through.
Follow this water flow and start with the last steep climb until you reach the Beckental that is the base camp from Ama Dablam.
Base camp Ama Dablam
Depending on the season, you may witness the expedition tents of climbers who eagerly train and wait to climb the summit.
climbing season is from April to May and from September to October. Ama Dablam is the third -party climbing summit in the Himalaya, so you can expect many eager climbers during this time.
When I completed the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek as an acclimatization hike on the Three Passes Trek, no tents were set up. However, it was an amazing experience to explore the base camp and have the whole mountain for us.

Return to Panboche
After you have rested for some time and admired Ama Dablam, take the same way down to Panboche for a well -deserved portion of dahl and a lemon tea.
It will most likely be a much faster trip downhill, but it could be a little exhausting for the knees.
