New children's tours in Schwandorf: Adventure in the rock cellar labyrinth!

New child-friendly tours in Schwandorf have been introduced to stimulate local tourism. These tours offer young explorers new perspectives on the city and its various attractions. Particularly exciting is Bavaria's largest rock cellar labyrinth, which can now be explored in the company of the “Felsenkellermaus Irene”. The stories and secrets of the historical rooms are conveyed here in an age-appropriate way, which is not only fun but also educational.

Another highlight of the new tour offering is the Blasturm, the landmark of Schwandorf. Maximilian Lohse, the head of the tourism office, was pleased with the new formats, which are specifically intended for families. “It is important to provide new impulses to inspire and motivate families to visit our city,” said Mayor Andreas Feller.

Brochure and registration

In order to publicize the new initiatives, a brochure with the public dates has been created, which is available both at the tourist office and online. The 2026 tour program in the Felsenkeller-Labyrinth provides tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in February. The increasing number of participants in online bookings shows a positive acceptance of these new offers.

A special event awaits visitors on Open Monument Day, which is planned for September 13, 2026. A varied guided tour program will be offered on this day, designed to further promote interest in local history and attractions.

Rock cellar labyrinth

The Felsenkeller labyrinth itself is one of the most impressive sights in Bavaria. Over 130 rock cellar rooms, carved from sandstone, are located beneath the large district town and provide a fascinating insight into the 500-year history of the cellar labyrinth. These historic rooms were once used for fermenting and storing beer, during communal brewing and as an air raid shelter during World War II.

The tours through the rock cellars are not only informative, but also provide space for regular events such as concerts, performances and readings. The special acoustics and the fascinating stone marbling create a unique flair that delights visitors. Information about the guided tours and the options for reserving tickets is available directly from the tourist office in Schwandorf, telephone 09431 45 550. Guided tours are possible daily, especially in the summer season from July to September, but the changed opening times should be noted.

Individual tours are also possible for groups if desired, and participants should note that a tour can be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not reached. The meeting point for the tours is the tourist office at Kirchengasse 1.
