Discover Athens: An unforgettable family city trip!
Claudia's family and her husband took an exciting trip to Athens with their two sons, 11 and 13 years old. On September 16, 2025, they started their three-day city trip from Zurich. The flight time was less than three hours and after a one-hour time difference, they experienced a fantastic view of the impressive city as they landed.
After landing at the airport, which is just outside the city, they were surprised by the good connections. Claudia and her family decided to take the metro to get into the city. Their first impression of Athens was overwhelming, especially the view of the Acropolis that they saw as they exited the train station.
Sights for the whole family
Athens offers a fascinating mix of history, experience and good food that delighted Claudia and her family. They visited, among other places, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Acropolis Museum, where they found interesting books about Greek mythology in the gift shop. Both museums also have excellent cafés, which offer a great opportunity to fortify yourself.
A hidden café on the terrace of Public, a Greek shopping, entertainment and communication center, offers breathtaking views of the Parliament and the National Garden. The Public is also a focal point for families and has a large selection of children's toys and books in different languages.
Interactive experiences
Another highlight was the Museum of Illusions, which proved to be a popular selfie spot. Attractions such as the “rotating room” and “head on the plate” provided a lot of fun and amazement. Here the children could not only discover interesting optical illusions, but also solve puzzles and buy utensils.
A ride on the Lycabettus cable car provides a spectacular view of Athens. The family members enjoyed the adventure ride up the hill and were able to run down the forested paths on the way back, which was a great adventure for both the sons and parents.
Finally, it is recommended to get a day pass for the tram. This allows you to explore the coastline from Paleo Faliro to Voula stress-free and offers another great experience for a varied family trip in Athens.
Overall, the trip was an unforgettable experience for Claudia and her family, characterized by history, fun and shared experiences in the vibrant capital of Greece. Anyone traveling to Athens will find numerous opportunities to experience both cultural and exciting adventures with the whole family.
