ICE bankruptcy in Günzburg: Travelers are at a loss on the platform!

In the past few days, an incident on the railway line in Swabia has caused resentment among travelers. At Günzburg train station, ICE locomotives drove twice without stopping what commuters and vacationers presented with great challenges. According to the Augsburger General this happened on the ICE 991 on his route from Wiesbaden via Stuttgart to Munich. As a result, passengers on the planned stopover could not get in or out. A spokeswoman for the Deutsche Bahn reacted and described this incident as a "extremely rare individual case" and apologized for the inconvenience.

Another similar incident does not seem to be documented, according to the spokeswoman, which raises questions about the reliability of driving operations. Günzburg is located on the ICE route between Augsburg and Ulm, although not all express trains keep there on schedule. The train drivers receive their timetable via a display, but there is not always a red signal to hold.

compensation for passengers

Deutsche Bahn allows passengers to apply for compensation for such incidents. As the website Bahnungung.info , travelers can digitally apply for compensation from their customer account from June 1, 2021. The application takes a maximum of five minutes and can be made via the railway website or the DB Navigator app.

The compensation guidelines are based on the European Regulation (EC) 1371/2007 and entitle passengers to reimbursements in the event of delays. Details are as follows:

delay time compensation
from 60 minutes 25% of the fare
from 120 minutes 50% of the fare
if not occurred or demolition complete reimbursement

However, the railway is not liable for consequential damage, such as missed flights or connections. In addition, delays do not have to be announced to be entitled to compensation. Travelers receive information about delays via notices, the app, announcements or advertisements.

Other rights of passengers include the cancellation of the train binding from a 20 -minute delay and the return option at more than 60 minutes of waiting. In addition, costs for taxis or buses up to 80 euros and hotel accommodation can be claimed if the trip can no longer be continued on the same day.

This incident in Günzburg and the associated compensation provisions make a highlight of the challenges in German rail traffic and remind the travelers that they should know their rights even in difficult situations.
