In July 2024, students from the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences had an innovative experience with draisine guests by experiencing an artificial reality. This project was created under the impulse of the Smart City project "Land L (i) just" in the neighboring district of Kusel. The experiences from this semester work could serve as a catalyst for future developments in the field of tourism and digitization in the region.
Another important project is coming up in autumn 2024: the foundation of the Tourism Service Center Pfälzer Bergland. The exact location has not yet been determined, but there is already financial support from the country based on the preparatory work. The aim of this new unit is to think greater to achieve more and to better exploit the potential of tourism in the region.
Smart City projects as a guide for the future
In parallel to these developments, the city of Kaiserslautern pursues a smart city project to effectively counter the challenges of urban development through digitization. This project aims to integrate spatial changes in the city and to design the digital transformation in such a way that it brings a real benefit for people. The expectations of citizens are increasing because they expect uncomplicated approaches and relief in everyday life.As part of the smart city project, new digital ideas are first tried out in practice in order to check their functionality. The aim is to analyze and investigate the city's dealings with innovative approaches how citizens can be actively involved in developments. At the end of the program time of the program, a look at the implemented projects should be taken, which specifically contribute to improving the reality of life in the city.
In summary, it can be said that developments in Kaiserslautern could set the course for a future -oriented urban design both in the area of tourism and digital transformation.
