Cultural trip to the Fichtelgebirge: Discover historical treasures!

The members of the Ehingen Cultural and Local History Association recently took an exciting trip to the Bavarian region, which took them through impressive cultural landscapes and museums. The group reached the Festival Park in Bayreuth after a quick drive that was interrupted by a coffee break. There the participants had time to eat and relax before continuing to Warmensteinach to visit the Fichtelgebirgs Glass Museum. Tours took place in the museum, led by Dr. Peter Füll, Gerd Lenk and Bettina and Josef Zaus were led.

A highlight of the museum visit was the glass bead room by the artist Dorothea-Therese Plenhart, which particularly impressed the travelers. The participants stayed at the Hotel Sonnental in Neusorg for the night and continued their explorations the next day with a visit to the monastery church in Waldsassen. Mr. Gerald Hruby led the group through the church and explained the origins and furnishings of the monastery, while the artistically carved monastery library was also visited.

Insights into glass art and cultural highlights

After lunch at the Kapplwirt, a visit to the chapel was on the agenda, followed by a detour to the Stiftland Museum. This museum held many memorabilia from visitors' childhood. On the third day the trip took us to the city of Selb, where we visited the Porzellanikon in Hohenberg in the afternoon. In the director's villa of Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther, travelers were able to admire showpieces and everyday tableware and also enjoy the impressive exhibition “Passion for Porcelain” by Helmut Drexler. Lunch and a coffee break took place in the Egerstau inn on the Eger.

On the way back to the hotel, the group made a detour to the Resl Neumann memorial in Konnersreuth, a homage to regional cultural history. The last day of the trip was dedicated to Speinshart Monastery, where Brother Valentin took the group on an informative journey of discovery through the church and monastery. A special devotion on the topic of time was presented by Ursula Dreher, Regina Rechtsteiner and Maria Traub, supported by organist Matthias Stiegler.

After a final lunch together in the monastery courtyard, the group began their journey back home, interrupted by a visit to Wolframs-Eschenbach. The participants thanked their driver Willi Schrode for the safe return journey and the unforgettable experiences they had had.

In addition to this trip, there are many other cultural highlights in the region. The Glass Route in Eastern Bavaria includes fascinating works of art by artists such as Magdalena Paukner, who was born in Zwiesel and lives in Lindberg. She is a state-certified glass designer and freelance artist whose works are characterized by bright colors and delicate designs. Her most famous work of art, “The Urkraut” (The Old Plant), can be admired in the Glass Gardens, where the beautiful horsetails are depicted. Their products, ranging from jewelry to vases to lampshades, reflect the beauty of nature and are very popular.

The varied journey of the Ehingen Cultural and Local History Association not only allows participants to gain new impressions, but also promotes an understanding of the rich artistic and cultural landscape of this Bavarian region.
