Traditional asparagus meal: Rostock's ship brokers celebrate 35 years!
A traditional asparagus dinner by ship brokers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took place today in Rostock's city harbor. Around 100 guests from the ports of Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund and Mukran took part in the event. The occasion served to express gratitude for the cooperation to date in the development of the maritime economy. This important tradition reinforces the close relationships and cooperation within the maritime industry.
This year the MV Ship Brokers Association is celebrating its 35th anniversary after being founded on October 11, 1990. The association includes 17 companies with over 100 employees, which illustrates the association's importance in the region. The history of ship brokers in Rostock goes back to 1737. This long tradition reflects the stability and importance of this profession.
History and integration
During the GDR era, the VEB Deutsche Schiffsmaklerei was responsible for the tasks of ship brokers. Today the association has been reintegrated into the Central Association of German Ship Brokers (ZVDS), which is over 100 years old. Michael Ott, the chairman of the association and head of the RZU Rostocker Zement Umschlagsgesellschaft, welcomed the guests, including Dr. Alexander Geisler and Jens Knudsen from ZVDS.
The association has increased its activities in recent years. This also includes taking part in job fairs to promote the ship broker career. At these trade fairs, young people can be introduced to the purple side of a maritime career and get to know the diverse possibilities.
Current topics and developments
At the meeting in Rostock, current developments and services from the ports in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MV) were discussed. The topics covered important aspects such as clearing ships, clearance, cooperation with customs and chartering. These issues are central to the efficiency and competitiveness of the region’s ports.
