Sigmar Solbach, a prominent actor, was born on October 3, 1946 in Olpe, Germany. Today, at the age of 78, he can look back on a remarkable career in German television. He became particularly known for his numerous appearances on the popular “ZDF-Traumschiff”, where he was present over a period of more than 30 years. But Solbach has recently withdrawn from larger TV productions and is increasingly devoting himself to other projects.
Apart from the “ZDF Dream Ship”, he also played in the series “The Black Forest Clinic”, “A Case for Two” and was seen in film adaptations of “Rosamunde Pilcher”. In addition to his acting career, Solbach has also worked as a voice actor. His most notable roles include the German voice of the character in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Foreign Correspondent.
Insights into childhood and personal experiences
In his autobiography “My Life – A Dream?” Solbach sheds light on his unusual childhood. In it he describes that until he was ten years old he mistakenly believed that Uncle Werner was his uncle. This later turned out to be his biological father. Solbach grew up with his mother and stepfather, whose cold and distant attitude towards him had a strong influence on him. He has made negative comments about his stepfather in the past, calling him a "loser" and a "stupid."
Despite the difficult family circumstances, Solbach was able to build a very successful career in acting. He also appeared on the “NDR Talkshow” and spoke about his personal experiences and the content of his autobiography. The stories about his childhood and the challenges he faced are part of what makes his life story so remarkable.
A long stage and television career
Sigmar Solbach began his acting training at the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum from 1967 to 1970 and made his debut at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. This was followed by engagements at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and at the Augsburg Municipal Theaters. His first major appearance on German television was in 1976 in “The Winter That Was a Summer”. Other important works included “The Secrets of Paris” (1980) and the role as a tour guide in the series “Happy Holidays” (1985).
A highlight of his career is the role of Dr. Stefan Frank in "Dr. Stefan Frank - The Doctor Women Trust", which aired from 1995 to 2001. In addition to his numerous television and film roles, Solbach also shows a strong commitment to the theater world and has played at the Bad Hersfeld Festival and the Luisenburg Festival. He also lives in Munich with his second wife Claudia and is an enthusiastic sailor. Since 2017 he has been the first chairman of the Society to Save Dolphins.
