The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) reports stable demand in incoming tourism for the 2025 summer season. These findings are based on the Long Haul Travel Barometer the European Travel Commission (ETC). Despite a slight decline in travel intentions to Europe in the markets examined, general interest in traveling to Germany and Europe remains high.

Overall, 39 percent of respondents from the relevant markets plan to travel to Europe in the summer months. However, this is a decrease of two percentage points compared to the previous year. The decline is particularly pronounced in the USA, where travel intentions have fallen by seven percent. A similar trend can also be observed in Brazil, Canada and Japan. At the same time, there is a significant increase in interest from Chinese people: 72 percent of them are planning to travel to Europe this year, which corresponds to an increase of ten percent compared to last year.

Challenges and budget adjustments

The GNTB emphasizes that high travel costs are the biggest hurdle for potential travelers. To address these challenges, many travelers are planning to reallocate their budget. They want to adjust spending on food, activities and shopping towards a mid-price segment.
