The Sea Eye refuge, known as PTTK Morskie Oko, is currently at the center of controversy after the prices on the menu leaked online and caused anger among tourists. How Poland Journal reported, visitors have to dig deep into their pockets for various food and drinks. A tea with raspberry juice costs 14 zloty, while a coffee with milk costs 20 zloty. The main courses are much more intense: a white bean stew costs 38 zloty, while a red borscht with croquettes costs 28 zloty. For a pork chop or chicken fillet with potatoes and salad you have to budget 52 zloty.
Visitors have criticized the high prices and complain that they are even higher than prices in restaurants in the center of Kraków. Additionally, the atmosphere in the hut was described as unpleasant and overcrowded, with some guests describing the quality of the food as inedible. The refuge only accepts cash payments, which is a concern among many tourists as there are no ATMs in the area.

However, the challenges are not just limited to food in the refuge. Loud TravelTipZone Access options are also limited. Horse-drawn carriages intended to facilitate access to the Morskie Oko are often sparsely staffed. On a Monday morning, about 100 people were reportedly waiting for a carriage ride. While waiting, many people decide to walk, as carriage operations are slow due to the long time it takes to fill up the vehicles.
The number of horse-drawn carriages is estimated to be between 8 and 15, which is insufficient for the large number of visitors. Each carriage can carry a maximum of 10 to 14 passengers. Additionally, prices are usually only revealed after boarding, making it difficult to estimate costs in advance. Estimated fares are around 100 zloty one way and 60 zloty return, although some drivers may also accept euros.

Visitors to Morskie Oko are therefore not only confronted with high prices in the refuge, but also with inadequate transport options via horse-drawn carriages. This results in an overall unsatisfactory experience, leading many visitors to consider alternative hostels and dining options. The combination of overpriced prices and limited transportation options could tarnish the reputation of this charming Tatra Mountains region.
