Tourist rush at the Mirador de Chipeque: Nature in danger!
The popular viewpoint Mirador de Chipeque in Tenerife, Spain, has developed from an insider tip into a crowded hotspot for tourists in recent years. Becoming increasingly popular through social media, the lookout point now attracts visitors from all over the world. The Mirador Chipeque is part of the TF-24 road that runs towards Teide. In addition to breathtaking views of the Pico del Teide volcano, the location also offers views of the Orotava Valley and the Teno Mountains as well as the outline of the neighboring island of La Palma.
However, the idyllic surroundings are increasingly affected by the negative effects of mass tourism. The increasing number of tourists not only attracts visitors, but also the associated problem of garbage dumping. Garbage and cigarette butts left behind, especially around the viewpoint, endanger the ecosystem and increase the risk of forest fires. The Canary Islands government has already taken measures to counteract the threat of forest fires, as the ground is covered in places with dry pine needles.
Forest fire danger and safety measures
In view of the upcoming forest fire season, around 2,000 emergency services from the fire department, police and military have prepared for possible operations. Last year, a ban on smoking in nature was also introduced to minimize further risks. Tourists are also advised to take their garbage with them and not to pollute nature in order to protect the surrounding area.
The preferred time to visit the Mirador de Chipeque is still recommended to enjoy the spectacular views of an often cloudy Orotava Valley. The viewpoint offers impressive panoramas both during the day and in the evening and is a must for every visitor to Tenerife who wants to experience nature and the breathtaking landscape. It is all the more important that the users of the viewing point preserve the beauty of the landscape and treat nature responsibly.
