Meet Michi and Martin: Farmers and tourism in exchange!

On June 27, 2025, the event “Meet Michi and Martin” took place in Tittmoning, which was organized by the Junge Union (JU) regional association Rupertiwinkel and the JU district association Traunstein. Around 80 guests from the Traunstein district took part in this event, which took place on the premises of Georg Huber GmbH & Co. KG (HuberGülletechnik) in the Kirchheim district. Managing director Georg Huber opened the event and gave those present a fascinating insight into the company's 160-year history.

The guests of honor included Michaela Kaniber, the Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, as well as Konrad Baur, member of the state parliament (MdL), and Martin Lackner, CSU politician and district administrator candidate. Georg Huber, senior, who is also the company's managing director, led the guests through the company premises and explained the modern technologies in the field of liquid manure technology as well as sustainable solutions for agriculture.

Discussion about challenges in tourism and agriculture

The event not only provided an opportunity for viewing, but also a framework for discussion about the challenges and opportunities arising from the combination of agriculture and tourism. The future of farms and the role of tourism as an important economic factor in the region were discussed. Michaela Kaniber emphasized the need for strong cooperation between agriculture and tourism to meet the needs of both sectors.

Martin Lackner expressed his desire to get closer to the citizens as a candidate for district administrator and to actively shape the future development of the district. Konrad Baur highlighted the connection between economic practice and political dialogue as a key factor for sustainable decisions.

The Junge Union rated the event as consistently positive, noting that there was a strong interest in political exchange on key issues. Georg Huber, regional chairman of JU Rupertiwinkel, expressed his satisfaction with the high level of participation and the achievement of the event's goals.

Sustainability as a key issue

The discussion surrounding the connection between agriculture and tourism points to larger trends in the region that have already been discussed in various academic works. The role of tourism as an important economic factor is often emphasized, as can be seen in the studies by Aschenbrand and Rein (2023) and Baur and Kürten (2023). These works show that sustainable practices are of great importance in regional development, especially when it comes to integrating environmental protection and economic development. The Federal Spatial Planning Report from 2017 highlights the relevance of tourism in Germany and provides a basis for discussion about sustainable developments in rural regions.

The combination of practical approaches such as modern manure technology with political initiatives and public discussion exemplifies the challenges that rural areas face today. Companies like Georg Huber GmbH & Co. KG play an essential role by developing innovative solutions that are both economically and ecologically justifiable.

In summary, it can be said that the event in Tittmoning not only offered an insight into a traditional company, but also provided important impulses for future cooperation between agriculture and tourism in the region. The commitment of the Junge Union and the participants shows that an active exchange on central topics is necessary in order to successfully master the challenges of rural areas.
