Andrea Kiewel in criticism: Body shaming in the ZDF television garden!

In the current edition from May 18, 2025 of the ZDF television garden, moderated by Andrea Kiewel, the focus was on the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). Kiewel, who is known as a passionate ESC supporter, opened the program with an emotional look back at the ESC night, in which the singer JJ for Austria was crowned the winner with his soulful song “Wasted Love”. This touching scene in which JJ burst into tears also moved Kiewel to tears. “I was so touched by the singer's joy,” said the presenter, who also reacted emotionally.

The Swiss ESC participant Luca Hänni, who took an excellent fourth place in 2019, was also a guest in the TV garden. When asked about his ESC favorite, Hänni named Tommy Cash, who performed the entry “Espresso macchiato” from Estonia. Kiewel expressed his wish that cash would come to the television garden's anniversary edition on June 15th. Sadly, the German contributors Abor & Tynna, who only reached number 15 with “Baller”, canceled their appearance, which Kiewel noted with disappointment.

Controversies surrounding Kiewel's comment

Despite the critical comment, Kiewel received positive feedback from some viewers during the hug she gave the viewer in question. Nevertheless, the incident, combined with the emotional connection to the ESC broadcast, remains in the memory and highlights the challenges and responsibilities of television presenters.

In summary, the May 18 broadcast was characterized by both moving and controversial moments that made the audience think.
