Biathlete Anna Weidel enjoys a relaxing mother-daughter vacation in Greece

Anna Weidel, the talented German biathlete, is currently enjoying relaxing moments in Greece with her mother. On her Instagram account she shares impressions of the trip, which is characterized by activities such as hiking and jogging by the sea. The excellent cuisine of Greece also contributes to well-being. The photos that Weidel posts show a breathtaking view from the hotel, and her friends and fans are enthusiastic about her impressions.

Anna Weidel was born in Kufstein in 1995 and can look back on considerable success. She won two silver medals at the Junior World Championships in 2014 and won gold at the European Championships in 2017 with the German relay team. But the past season was mixed for her: she was not nominated for the 2025 World Championships in Lenzerheide and was unable to achieve top ten results in the individual competitions at the European Biathlon Championships in Martell.

Strong at the European Championships

Despite the setbacks, Weidel was able to shine in the team. Together with her teammates Stefanie Scherer, Marlene Fichtner and Johanna Puff, she secured the gold medal in the relay. The German women's relay team won with an impressive lead of 22.3 seconds after 9 spare rounds. France, who initially led during the competition, had to settle for silver, while Italy took bronze.

A total of 17 women's relay teams took part in the competition day, but only 10 reached the finish line. Johanna Puff gave Germany the lead at the crucial moment, while Weidel and Scherer laid the foundation for victory. Weidel now has the goal of qualifying for the German Ski Association (DSV) World Cup team for the coming season and celebrating success.

The DSV men's relay team also successfully completed the European Championships. The Germans only had to admit defeat to the dominant Norwegian relay team and secured the silver medal with one penalty and 12 spare rounds. Norway ended up lapping six teams and won by over two minutes.

The colorful medal presentation shows that the German team delivered strong performances in Martell and thus took second place in the medal ranking behind Norway. In the coming season, Weidel is planning hard preparation to convince the national coach and spectators of her skills. The next IBU Cup will take place in Ridnaun, South Tyrol in February 2025, where the athletes will once again fight for medals.
