Castle Hill Townsville is a 286 meter high granite monolith who proudly overlooks the city of Townsville.

Although it is not an exhausting hike, hiking to Castle Hill Townsville is one of the best activities in the city for those who are looking for a little adventure before leaving to Magnetic Island.

From the Castle Hill viewpoint you have a breathtaking 360-degree view of the city of Townsville, Magnetatic Island and even up to the Great Palm Islands and Cape Cleveland.

How to get to the Castle Hill Townsville Hike

The hike to the Castle Hill viewpoint begins not far from the city. While you can drive almost all the way up, it is best to reach the viewpoint via the windy goat path.

I marked the beginning of the route on the map below.

Castle Hill Townsville-The goat path

There are two main hiking trails that lead to the top of the granite rock formation. The best track is known as Goat Track. From Metro Townsville you don't need longer than an hour to reach the summit of the Castle Hill.

Start the hike in the place that is marked on the map above.

You can then follow the signs through a few pedestrian zones for about 5 minutes before you get access to the Goat Track Trail.

It is a pretty steep climb to the top of the Castle Hill Lookout. However, the path is clearly marked and is waited for hikers with clear traces and even built -in steps for the steeper parts.

The Goat Track ends and you have to continue the last part of the hike on a steep street for about 5 minutes before reaching the summit.

Caution before snakes

The hot, exposed sun and the high grass surrounding the Castle Hill route are the best area for snakes. During our hike we saw a little brown snake, which hikers could easily send to the emergency room.

Although we have not seen any, there are also signs of game dog populations in the foot. So best be careful.

You have the best view right on the right when you reach the parking lot. You can take the paths and steel levels that lead to some rocky stains.

The Summit Circuit-View of Palm Islands, Townsville Suburbs and Halifax Bay

The Summit Circuit is right in front of you when you reach the tip of the Castle Hill parking lot.

The summit itself is used as a communication tower, but they can run around to get a better view of the distant mountains and far out on Halifax Bay.

Complete the Castle Hill Townsville hike by going down the Goat Track, or take the alternative path from the foot of the Castle Hill.
