Where is Sohoton Cove?

There are many island hopping tours on Siargao, but the trip to Sohoton Cove is probably the furthest.

That's because Sohoton National Park is located on the nearby island of Bucas Grande, Surigao del Norte. Boats departing from either General Luna or Dapa on Siargao to Sohoton Cove will get you there in just over an hour.

Tip: If you are looking for a closer option to Siargao with beautiful lagoons, visit Sugba Lagoon.

How to get from Siargao to Sohoton Cove – updated

There are two ways to get from Siargao to Sohoton Cove. Of course both require a boat and a driver.

Let me break them down for you.

Sohoton Cove Full Day Tour by General Luna

The most stress-free and easiest way to get to Sohoton Cove is to simply book a full-day tour that departs from the General Luna tourist center.

The price is really affordable and will probably be cheaper than renting a motorbike, driving to Del Carmen and trying to rent a private boat at the terminal.

This trip also includes a visit to the very popular Daku and Naked Islands. This is great if you want to try these too! I've included photos of it below so you know what to expect.

semi-independent option

I somehow evaded this option above. If you are a couple or traveling alone, then this option doesn't make much sense. However, if you are in a large group, you can save money by riding a motorbike to Dapa town. From here you can book the ferry that will take you to Socorro for 200 pesos.

Once you arrive in Socorro, you can pay a boat driver 1200-1500 pesos to take you around Sohoton Cove to visit the caves and other highlights.

Everything you need to know about the Sohoton Cove National Park trip

With the logistics out of the way, let's dive into what to expect on a trip. I will also include some attractions that you should definitely visit when you get here.

Sohoton National Park

Sohoton Cove in Sohoton National Park has long been a well-kept secret. I made my first trip here in 2018 and was honestly blown away! The term Sohoton means narrow opening in Filipino (Visayan), alluding to the series of labyrinthine lagoons and secret coves.

Sohoton National Park is also full of limestone caves and unique rock formations.

Just look at this video I shot with my drone. If you have one, definitely bring it with you!

Blue Lagoon of Sohoton (Titican Lagoon)

There are many blue lagoons in Sohoton Cove Siargao, but one of the most popular is Titican Lagoon. This is one of the most fluorescent blue lagoons I have ever visited.

There is a dock here where you will likely dock your bangka (Filipino outrigger boat). Here you can swim or rent a kayak or SUP to explore the area. I took the time to fly my drone here to get a better view of Sohoton's amazing bays and lagoons! Below are some shots.

Exploring the Sohoton Caves

After visiting the Blue Lagoon, our driver took us to explore some caves in Sohoton National Park. We visited Hagukan Cave, Magkukuob Cave and the famous Crystal Cave. The first two were just a quick stop for us as we found it very crowded with people. We still took the time to swim in the bay and jumped off the small 5 meter rock wall of Hagukan Cave.

Crystal cave Sohoton Cove

One of the highlights of our trip from Siargao to Sohoton Cove was a stop at Crystal Cave. Unlike Hagukan and Magkukuob, we had this cave all to ourselves. To do this, we had to pay a guide who lives next to the cave 50 pesos for a guided tour. She explained to us the intricacies of this unique geological phenomenon and pointed out some impressive stalagmites and stalactites.

Our guide also showed us around her village and was very keen to show off her roosters. She also showed us a 1.5 meter long reef shark that she had kept as a “pet” in a small fenced in bay.

Sohoton Resorts: Diving Board & Slide

Before the day was over, our boat driver took us to two different resorts with diving boards into deep, emerald green lagoons.

The first was the Sohoton Gamay Resort. This one has an epic 5 meter diving board where you can practice your backflips. It also has an awesome water slide! We spent a good 45 minutes here sending flips and enjoying this lagoon all to ourselves. We also took the short route over the hill to explore the lagoon beyond.

The second stop was the popular Club Tara Island Resort. I was blown away by how amazing this resort was. If I were spending the night in Sohoton Cove or somewhere in the national park near Socorro, I would choose this hotel. In true Bucas Grande style, there was also a diving board from which we jumped off a few more times.
