How do you get to the Emmagen Creek Swimming Hole - Cape Tribulation?

The Emmagen Creek swimming hole is one of my personal favorite swimming holes in Cape tribulation. This refreshingly clear freshwater stream is located in the Daintree National Park in the middle of an oasis with a lush rainforest.

If you are looking for a free and safe way to cool off in Cape tribulation, then Emmagen Creek is one of your best bets! You only have to take a short rainforest walk to reach it, and maybe even discover some local wild animals on the way!

How to get to the Emmagen Creek Swimming Hole

Creek is about 5 kilometers north of Cape Tribulation. It actually marks the "end of the street" for two -wheelers because they have to cross the stream if you want to go north to Bloomfield or Coktown.

To get here, follow the Cape Tribulation Road to the north, past Myall Beach, Mason Waterhole, Mount Sorrow Ridge Trail and most other highlights in Cape Trib. You will soon reach an unpaved section of the street. Don't worry, this relatively short distance of 3.5 kilometers is quite well graded and easy to manage with most 2WD vehicles, at least until you reach Emmagen Creek.

The street rises steadily in some sections, so take the time and pay attention to other vehicles. You will know when to approach Emmagen Creek if you approach the huge strangling tree on the right side of the street. Only a few hundred meters behind you see the large cleared area on which cars are often parked to get to the swimming hole.

Emmagen Creek Walk (short)

After you have parked your vehicle, go down a little further down to the Creek crossing. Here you will notice the signs with a ban on swimming for crocodiles. However, don't stress yourself. A little further upstream from the street you can swim safely at the Emmagen Creek.

A short hiking trail begins right to the left in front of the stream. This route is completely level and only a few hundred meters long. Follow him and you get to this incredible freshwater swimming hole.

What you can expect in the Emmagen Creek Swimming Hole

Emmagen Creek is my personal favorite sweet water bathroom in Cape tribulation. The bathing area is a deep section of the stream with eroded shores that are worn by thick rainforest roots.

There is even a rope swing attached to the tree with which you can jump into the crystal -clear water. The depth can vary depending on the season, but during our visit under relatively dry conditions it was at least 6 feet deep.

You will also notice many large jungle bass fish that swim on the shores of the stream. I suspect these boys are pretty used to humans because they didn't seem to disturb us at all.

If you are lucky, you can also discover a Kasuar at the Emmagen Creek. Unfortunately we couldn't discover anyone during our visit. However, our friend made a trip to the hole just an hour after us and discovered a male Kasuar and three chicks!

Can you swim at the Emmagen Creek?

From swimming downstream near the street is definitely not recommended because there is a crocodile sign. However, it is generally certain to continue swimming upstream at the Emmagen Creek swimming hole, as large boulders block the crocodiles upwards.

It is also a very well -known swimming hole in Cape tribulation that attracts several visitors every day.

Are there crocodiles at the Emmagen Creek?

After a little research, it is clear that crocodiles were spotted at the Emmagen Creek. However, they were only spotted downstream. The water on the Emmagen Creek swimming hole is very fresh, but the salt water crocodiles prefer the brackish water downstream to the ocean.

Best hostel in Cape Trib: Daintree Crocodyylus Hostel for backpackers and those with a small budget who prefer a somewhat raw daintree experience, I would recommend the Herberge Crocodyyl. In Cow Bay, closer to the ferry, but only a stone's throw from Cape Tribulation and Myall Beach, this hostel offers rooms in the safari tent style, which are made of wood and canvas, with high blankets, fans and mosquito nets. All rooms have a view of the rainforest and include access to your swimming pool!
