Once-in-a-lifetime trip to Aldabra Atoll: discover the treasure trove of the Indian Ocean!
With a very special expedition, Silhouette Cruises would like to experience the beauty of the Aldabra Atoll in the Indian Ocean. In May 2026, the expedition ship “Maya’s Dugong” will start a 15-day trip to this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is known for its untouched flora and fauna. The archipelago, around 1,000 kilometers from the main island of Mahé, is not only the largest in the Indian Ocean, but also offers an impressive biodiversity with numerous rare bird and animal species as well as a unique underwater world.
Divers can look forward to impressive encounters with schools of barracuda, sharks and sea turtles. The habitat is characterized by huge gorgonian corals and colorful schools of fish, which are optimally protected by a fishing ban imposed by the Seychelles Islands Foundation. The passage through the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, known for their intact coral reefs and rare birds such as the frigate bird, promises unforgettable experiences in one of the best diving destinations in the world.
Itinerary and offers
The expedition begins and ends in Mahé and takes participants across the Desroches Islands, the Alphonse Group and Cosmoledo, an uninhabited island that is home to large bird colonies. Special features of the trip include the exploration of smaller islands that are normally only visited by research groups. The “Maya’s Dugong”, which is 43 meters long, offers space for 14 passengers and 10 crew members, creating a very personal atmosphere on board.
The expedition will only be offered once in May 2026: from May 8th to May 22nd. Price per person starts at $15,269, which includes meals. In addition, there is a landing fee of 950 US dollars and environmental taxes of 84 US dollars. Expedition cruises to Aldabra will also take place in February 2024, starting at $13,034 per person. These trips offer comprehensive diving equipment and access to experienced instructors, as well as free kayaking and snorkeling trips.
Sustainability and attractions
Aldabra offers a thriving animal world that has been able to develop almost undisturbed by human influences. The world's largest population of giant tortoises lives here, and huge colonies of seabirds turn the skies over the atoll into a living spectacle. Special explorations are possible due to the small number of guests, giving travelers unique insights into this fascinating ecosystem.
Silhouette Cruises was founded in 1997 and has since specialized in cruising the Seychelles, including expedition cruises since 2015. These new voyages are waiting to be discovered, offering both relaxation and adventure in one of the last paradises on earth.
