Overwatch Season 18: Play like Luka and 77 loot boxes await!
On September 6, 2025, Aaron, the director of Overwatch, announced the release of Season 18, which is considered one of the biggest seasons. This season brings many exciting new features, including a new hero, stadium upgrades and a revamped progression system. A special highlight is the “Play like Luka” event, which was organized in collaboration with basketball star Luka Dončić. In this event, players have the opportunity to earn up to 77 loot boxes.
The “Play Like Luka” event is themed around Luka Dončić, a former Dallas Mavericks player. The number 77, which appears in the event name, refers to Luka's shirt number for the Los Angeles Lakers. Participants must complete certain game goals to collect rewards. However, to earn loot boxes, players do not have to play in Stadium mode, increasing the accessibility of the event.

Community and future plans
Recent events show that Overwatch developers place great value on the community. Aaron and the development team attended gamescom in Germany, while Alec Dawson and other team members traveled to China to attend community events in Chengdu. There were show matches and personal conversations with players who showed great interest and enthusiasm for the game.
The developers plan to conduct specific events and feature tests based on regional needs and emphasize the positive response from fans to the new season. There will also be more Q&A sessions in developer live streams in the future to promote dialogue with the community.
Aaron is optimistic about the future of Overwatch and believes that the lessons learned from previous seasons will encourage the team to be bolder in developing new features. The aim is to take the game to a new level and create action-packed moments that will delight players.
