Vietnam is becoming a favorite destination: Europeans are discovering exoticism and culture!
Vietnam is increasingly becoming a preferred travel destination for European tourists. In mid-summer 2025, the country ranked fifth among the Asian destinations most requested by European travelers. This pleasing result was announced by Agoda. Loud vietnam.vn Travel agencies saw an increase in interest of over 20% in summer 2025 compared to the previous year.
Visitors from countries such as France, Great Britain, Germany, Russia and Norway are particularly interested in traveling to Vietnam. More and more travelers from Russia and Norway are displacing the once leading markets such as the Netherlands and Spain, which can be attributed to direct flights and visa exemptions. Popular travel destinations within Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hanoi, which offer both cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes.
Image promotion and cultural events
The Vietnam Tourism Authority has launched targeted programs to strengthen the country's image in Europe. In May 2025, a program was launched to introduce Vietnamese tourism in countries such as France, Italy and Switzerland. As part of this initiative, the Hue Royal Court Music was also performed in Paris and companies had the opportunity to hold B2B meetings in Milan, Geneva and Paris.
These measures are part of a broader strategy being implemented by the National Tourism Authority. The authority aims to promote Vietnam in the European tourism market and plans further activities in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany from June 20 to July 2, 2025. A good 70% of international travelers research social networks before choosing their travel destination, highlighting the need to increase Vietnam's online presence.
Sustainability and investment in the tourism sector
The development of tourism in Vietnam is strongly influenced by economic, cultural and historical factors. In particular, the Do Moi policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which has existed since 1986, has helped to reform the tourism sector. However, the promotion of tourism in Vietnam is still inadequate. Although the Ministry of Tourism has the improvement of tourism infrastructure as its main goal, it is faced with a limited budget and a lack of legal regulations. In 2005, less than $1 million was invested in tourism promotion.
In order to catch up with the known gap compared to neighboring countries such as China and Thailand, the government has taken various measures. Among other things, the state plans to create a legal basis to attract foreign investors and is aiming for tax relief and simplification of the visa procedure. Sustainable development is a priority and the government has begun to provide necessary funding for the training of professionals in the tourism sector.
Given this progress and positive forecasts, Vietnam could be ranked among the top ten tourist destinations worldwide by 2016. However, experts recommend a comprehensive strategy for sustainable promotion of the country in order to remain competitive in international tourism in the long term.
