King Carl Gustaf without Silvia in Latvia: Concerned about the Queen's health!

The Swedish royal family is once again attracting attention with separate appointments. Today the Swedish royal family confirmed that King Carl Gustaf will unexpectedly travel to Latvia without Queen Silvia. This visit, scheduled to take place on May 22, is considered an important appointment as the King will visit the Swedish battalion unit of the multinational NATO brigade. Afterwards, a lunch with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs is planned. While this isn't the first time the couple has gone their separate ways, the frequent absences raise questions about the queen's health. Mercury reports that Carl Gustaf most recently traveled alone to Osaka in Japan and also traveled to Singapore in November 2024, while Silvia was unable to attend due to a respiratory infection.

The repeated separations raise speculation as to whether these independent trips by the king are a deliberate strategy by the royal family to make appointments more efficient. Queen Silvia, who has stood side by side with her husband for almost 50 years, has repeatedly proven that she can carry out her royal duties independently.

Queen's Awards and Commitment

Queen Silvia was recently honored for her commitment. On June 28, 2023, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling in Scotland. This award recognizes her decades of commitment to people with dementia. Gala reports that King Carl Gustaf was not present at this ceremony and the reasons for his absence remained uncommented.

Queen Silvia founded the Silviahemmet Foundation in 1996, which is committed to caring for people with dementia. This foundation offers training programs for medical staff and families and is currently supporting a University of Stirling research project to develop housing innovations for people with cognitive disorders.

During her acceptance speech for the honorary doctorate, Silvia shared that her mother suffered from dementia and this motivated her to found the foundation. After the ceremony, the Queen visited Maggie's Forth Valley facility, where she joined Professor Judih Phillips to examine the cancer support model for its applicability to those living with dementia. The royal family published images of the honor on Instagram, which underlined the Queen's close connection to her commitment.
