New Scientific Council for the Nguyen Throne founded in Hue!
On May 29, 2025, an important measure to preserve cultural heritage in Vietnam was adopted. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved the establishment of a scientific council that will be responsible for assessing and planning the preservation of the Nguyen Dynasty throne. This throne, which has significant historical significance, was donated by the Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee. The chairman of the council will in turn be the chairman of the Hue Municipal People's Committee.
The ministry also approved the proposed list of council members of the Hue Municipal People's Committee. The council will consist of representatives from state authorities, historic preservation and cultural experts, and restoration specialists. A representative of the Department of Cultural Heritage will also be appointed by the Ministry and the National History Museum will be a member of the Council. These measures are in accordance with paragraph 4, article 55 of the Cultural Heritage Law of 2001, which regulates the decentralized state management of cultural heritage.
Steps to preserve cultural heritage
The Hue Municipal People's Committee had previously sent a request to the ministry to set up a national council for damage assessment and restoration planning for the throne. This council can either be established by the ministry itself or the Hue City People's Committee is authorized to establish it. Council members will submit a report to the Hue Municipal People's Committee to propose a renovation plan. The city must obtain the ministry's approval before submitting the draft to the Prime Minister.
Once approved, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will be entrusted with implementing the plan. Authorities will oversee and evaluate the restoration of the artifact. In addition, the council will also recommend solutions to protect and regularly maintain the throne of the Nguyen Dynasty, housed in the Thai Hoa Palace. This shows Vietnam's commitment to preserving its rich cultural heritage.
