Phu Chi Fa Thailand is an incredible mountain viewpoint in the northeastern corner of Thailand. The few selected travelers who have made the long trip to Phu Chi FA will probably tell you that this is the best viewpoint for sunrise all over Thailand!

The viewpoint runs along the border between Thailand and Laos and offers a wide view over the gentle mountain slopes to the Laos landscape. For many, Phu Chi Fa Thailand is an incredible opportunity to see the fog sea from above while watching the clouds shine from the rising sun in a golden color.

Phu Chi Fa, also written as a phu chee, is probably one of the best kept secrets of Thailand. Usually you will not find many tourists at the viewpoint. Instead, it is mainly inhabited by Thai travelers who want to see the famous fog sea from Phu Chi Fa, and can therefore be quite busy at sunrise.

Although the summit of the mountain is at an altitude of 1442 meters, no large hike is required to reach the summit. In real Thai manner there is a street that was built almost to the summit, which means that they overcome most of the height by car or motorcycle.

Viewpoint Nebelmeer

No matter whether you leave Chiang Rai or spend the night in the nearby village, I recommend leaving early to get the best view. If you have never experienced the Nebelheaer sunrise over the clouds, then this is an opportunity that you shouldn't miss.

The viewpoint Phu Chi FA is a cliff in the Doi Pha Mon sub-area and falls out to the Mekong in Laos. If you stay a little longer after sunrise or if it is a particularly clear day, you can look deep into the valleys, mountains and rivers of Laos.

The tip of the cliff is long and flat, which means that everyone has a lot of space to spread and find a place to watch the sunrise. For some reason, however, people in the main area are still crowded. Instead, we went a little bit to the left and found a private place with the same view.

Phu Chi FA is located in the northeast of Thailand, about 2 hours from Chiang Rai and is located on the border with Laos at the northeastern end of the Phu Pan Nam Range.

There is a long, winding, hilly road that leads from Chiang Rai to Phu Chi FA. The entire street is paved and a moped brings you all the way. However, I would recommend getting you with a little strength to bring them up the hills, especially if they have a passenger.

Arrival according to Phu Chi Fa Thailand

It is really difficult to exceed this sunny outside viewpoint in Thailand, and yet not many tourists seem to make the journey.

This is probably because the place is somewhat away from the usual tourist paths. To get to Phu Chi FA, you either have to organize a private driver or rent your own motorcycle or car.

Phu Chi Fa from Chiang Rai

The best way to get to Phu Chi FA is to organize your journey from the nearest city and the closest tourist center. Chiang Rai. We decided to take the return trip in one day and drive off Chiang Rai at 3:00 a.m. in order to get to the viewpoint in time for the sunrise. We then decided to go all the way back into the past to have breakfast in our hostel for free. The journey takes at least 2 hours per route, and you have to be on a motorcycle pretty safe to drive it yourself.

If you decide to make the trip in one day, I would suggest to start at 3:00 a.m. or earlier and rent at least a 110cc moped, since the hills are steep and curve.

Motorby rental price in Chiang Rai: 150-200 baht a day. If you spend the night in the Grace Hostel, the owner can organize a motorcycle for you.

Directions on the street

The best way to get here is the use of Google Maps to guide it to the above pin "Phu Chi Fa". Funnily enough, Google actually fixes the point of view within Laos!

from Chiang Rai, take the highway through flat country roads, past farms and rice fields before turning on the forest roads. The last hour of the journey is very steep because they climb and descend over the mountain chains.

TIP: If you drive from Chiang Rai at the sunrise, no petrol stations or petrol stations are open. Therefore I would suggest replenishing the previous day. If you consume a lot of fuel on the way here, the last opportunity to refuel on a tank column in the style of a self -consumer in Khun Tan, a small town, is shortly before turning on the steep forest roads. Pay attention to it on the left side of the street.

Apparently there is a bus from Chiang Rai to Phu Chi Fa, which runs from Chiang Rai bus station at 1:30 p.m. However, I couldn't find any information online, so it is best to ask your accommodation.

As already mentioned, Phu Chi Fa Thailand is a somewhat remote travel destination. Therefore, there are not many special tours that start from Chiang Rai. However, if you prefer not to drive yourself, you can book a private driver of Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai here.
