Luxury liner Luminara”: entry into the most expensive cruise in the world!

The first voyage of the new luxury cruise ship “Luminara” will begin in Monte Carlo on July 3, 2025. In the most expensive cabin category, up to 78,000 euros per person have to be paid for the maiden voyage. The journey takes you from Monte Carlo through several stops to Rome, across the Italian coast and the picturesque Mediterranean.

An incomparable onboard experience

On board the “Luminara”, holidaymakers can expect an exceptional gastronomic offering with a total of five restaurants, including two run by Michelin-award-winning chefs. Menus include an eight-course Italian menu as well as Mediterranean-Middle Eastern dishes. There is also an impressive art collection on board with 731 works by well-known artists such as Warhol, Klee and Matisse.

The design of the ship combines exterior and interior architecture developed by the design company Aivan. The facade exudes elegance and grace, inspired by private yachts. The interior features a soft color palette of brown oak, Calacatta marble and leather accents, with touches of red, navy and green.

In addition to culinary experiences, the “Luminara” also offers wellness facilities in the Ritz-Carlton Spa®. Plus, the freedom to shop on board is given added charm with brands like Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen and Piaget. There is a wine cellar for passengers to complement the excellent selection of wines.

Environmental aspects and future travel

Despite the luxurious offering, the “Luminara” must be viewed critically in terms of its ecological impact. The ship runs on heavy fuel oil, which is considered harmful to the environment. A week-long Mediterranean cruise causes loud calf around 1.9 tonnes of CO₂ per person. The high energy consumption of cruise ships is often compared to the energy needs of a small city, raising concerns about environmental footprint and resource consumption.

After the maiden voyage, further trips to Asia and Alaska are planned. This includes a summer season from April to October 2025, in which there will be a total of 53 different trips on the “Luminara”, the “Evrima” and the “Ilma”. The effectiveness of these trips is closely monitored in terms of both luxury and environmental awareness.
