Our extensive K2 Base Camp gear list includes everything you need for this epic hike to the second highest mountain on earth

I have just returned from my K2 Base Camp trek in Pakistan and thought it would be helpful to share my complete K2 Base Camp gear list as a reference point for future trekkers.

I joined Lost Horizon Tours and Treks on a hike to K2 Base Camp combined with a technical traverse of the Gondogoro La Pass. Lost Horizons provides all camping, cooking, and technical equipment (ropes, ice axes, and crampons), but hikers must bring their own sleeping bags, trekking gear, clothing, and personal items.

It is possible to buy some equipment in Skardu or Islamabad, but I would advise you to do all your shopping before leaving home to avoid last minute emergencies.

Some new little things

I already had most of the things before, but I treated myself to a few new items. First up was a pair of new hiking boots. Two of my favorite outdoor brands (Sherpa and Keen) collaborated to create the Innate leather hiking boot. The boots are lightweight, breathable and extremely comfortable, especially in hot climates. Keen also donates €15 from every sale to support children's literacy in Nepal.

I upgraded my trekking poles to a pair of ultra-light folding poles from Leki that snap into place super quickly. I also packed a new OutdoorVitals front-opening sleeping bag, which is lighter and more water-resistant with a mix of LoftTek and down filling.

Finally, I treated myself to a pair of sock shoes from Skinners. During my recent hike on the Arctic Circle Trail, I did not pack appropriate footwear for the river crossings. The Skinners proved invaluable in Pakistan. In fact, I have now added them to the “Essentials” section of my trekking chart. (Yes, I have a spreadsheet and I'm not ashamed of it...)

There are currently very few current Pakistan travel guides available. We therefore recommend the waterproof Karakoram trekking map from TerraQuest in a scale of 1:175,000 for the K2 base camp trek.
