Khanh Hoa launches green standards for sustainable tourism!
On May 30, 2025, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee announced that new green tourism standards had been introduced in the region. These standards aim to promote the sustainable development of tourism in Khanh Hoa and establish environmentally friendly practices in the industry. The standard catalog includes a total of 102 criteria for accommodation establishments and 100 criteria for tourist attractions. Important aspects include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, environmentally friendly actions and the management team for sustainable development.
Tourism entities and companies have the opportunity to self-assess the sustainability of their business activities. To do this, they can access software provided that enables self-assessment. The evaluation takes place at three different levels: basic, advanced and excellent. If the criteria are met, companies can receive a recognition decision and green tourism standards certificate from the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, valid for three years. The main aim of these standards is to help companies review their green transformation and sustainable development activities.
Long-term goals until 2030
In parallel with the introduction of these standards, the People's Committee also developed a plan that aims to develop green and sustainable tourism by 2030. The plan calls for a total of 80% of tourist attractions and tourism businesses to be awarded a green label by 2030. In addition, 80% of tourism companies that produce more than 10 m³ of wastewater per day should have wastewater treatment facilities that meet environmental standards.
In addition, a majority of companies are committed to no longer using single-use plastic products and 95% of tourism operators are to invest in renewable energy. The plan also includes the creation of four tourism routes connecting green tourist destinations across the province, as well as the development of four green tourism products at each tourist location. These measures are not only crucial for environmental protection, but also contribute to the promotion of cultural, historical and natural values.
Efforts for a sustainable future
Khanh Hoa Province's commitment to environmentally friendly tourism is also underlined by mobilizing support from government agencies and the tourism industry. Investments in the development of green tourism are intended to create further incentives to make Khanh Hoa an attractive destination for sustainable travel. These initiatives clearly show that the region is on the right track to balance environmental responsibility and economic success.
