Orchid Festival in Ho Chi Minh City: A festival of flowers and culture!
The annual Orchid Festival opened in Ho Chi Minh City today, May 16, 2025. This festival is not only a celebration of floral splendor, but also part of the extensive celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, which began on April 30, 1975. It also celebrates the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, who was born on May 19, 1890. The festival takes place in Tao Dan Park in the city's first district and lasts until May 20th.
Over 200 participants, including craftsmen, gardeners and farmers from both home and abroad, take part in the event. The works on display are inspired by the historic reunification procession of 1976 and are intended to build a bridge between the past, present and future. Particularly impressive are the views of the North-South train and subway, while the city shines in the background with its numerous flower seasons.
Creativity and prizes
A total of 39,000 orchid products were presented in the miniature landscapes category during the festival. Comrade Vo Van Hoan presented certificates of merit to the artists who participated in the orchid competition and emphasized the importance of the festival for exchanges and trade cooperation among artisans. In addition, 70 outstanding orchid works were honored. Vo Van Hoan suggested organizing seminars and promoting online sales opportunities to further spread the rich culture.
A particular success was the award of the work “Vietnamese Soul”, which won the silver prize at the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition (TIOS) in 2025. Artists also performed live orchid artwork, showcasing the creative power and diversity the festival has to offer.
Celebrating national heritage
Parallel to the Orchid Festival, a large-scale ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam took place, attended by numerous high-ranking international guests, including Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos, and Salvador Valdes Mesa, Cuban Vice President. The ceremony began with an impressive art program, followed by a speech by KPV General Secretary To Lam. He explained that the victory to liberate South Vietnam was a crucial milestone in Vietnam's history, marking the end of a 30-year struggle for independence.
To Lam thanked Ho Chi Minh, the fallen soldiers and the Vietnamese diaspora for their contribution to national unity. In his speech, he emphasized that Vietnam has made great progress since reunification and wants to deepen international cooperation. The atmosphere at the parade was one of pride and gratitude as tens of thousands of people cheered on the participants.
These two events not only highlight Vietnam's cultural diversity, but also national cohesion and the pursuit of a peaceful and prosperous country. The orchid festival and the national reunification celebrations symbolize a country that has learned from its history and looks to the future with hope.
