Tourism summit in Quy Nhon: Opportunities for the future of the region!
A major conference focused on linking tourism development in the Central Coastal Region and the Central Highlands was held in Quy Nhon on May 30, 2025. The event was organized by the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee in cooperation with the National Tourism Administration. Participants included local leaders, experts and businesses who discussed the region's challenges and opportunities. Loud vietnam.vn Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration, emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in the necessary investments and innovations in the tourism sector.
Lam Hai Giang, vice chairman of the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, called the region a "treasure of tourism resources" and called for better use of this development potential. Tourism is crucial as a leading economic sector and Binh Dinh has already taken measures to achieve this, including signing a cooperation program with six neighboring provinces.
Collaboration and challenges
Professor Pham Trung Luong pointed out that linking tourism between regions has been an issue for 20 years but has not been successfully implemented. In this regard, Dinh Van Thieu, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, emphasized the importance of building a local brand and infrastructure connections. Lam Hai Giang also called for a flexible and responsible coordination mechanism for inter-provincial cooperation.
In order to develop interregional products and implement joint strategies, companies and tourism associations should act proactively. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Qui, deputy general manager of FLC Hotels & Resorts, pointed out the infrastructure bottlenecks, especially in air traffic, and reported difficulties in operating charter flights to Quy Nhon. DA Trip CEO Choice Young Gill also expressed that Korean tourists show great interest in Vietnam but face difficulties in direct flights to Quy Nhon. She emphasized the need for a diverse local tourism offering and improved promotional information.
Transport infrastructure as key
A key theme that overshadowed the conference is the urgent need to improve regional and inter-regional transport connections. The provinces of the Central Highlands region suffer from limited transport infrastructure, making development difficult. Loud sggp.org.vn The Central Highlands is the region with the lowest proportion of highways in Vietnam, with only 19 kilometers operational since 2008. However, ongoing high-speed highway projects, such as the construction of the Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Highway, which will be over 117 kilometers long, could be a game-changer.
With a total investment of nearly VND22 trillion, this project is considered a strategic link between the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast and has the potential to significantly promote the region's socio-economic development. Other important projects are also being planned, including the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh Highway in Dak Nong and the Tan Phu - Bao Loc Highway in Lam Dong, which will help improve transport connectivity and ultimately support the tourism sector.
Overall, it is clear that close cooperation between the provinces and a regulated transport network are crucial to unlocking the enormous development potential of the Central Coastal Region and the Central Highlands.
